I'm new to it
Hi, as the title says is it a good club to join ? This year we will be having our main holiday in August touring abroad but in the meantime we have 5 day breaks in Feb, April and June where we will be in the uk ? Do they offer a better site and are there other benefits to being a member or would I be better off joining something else. Thankyou.

We recently stayed at a couple of C&MC sites, Poolsbrook, £14/night and Crystal Palace, £84/3nights. Where else in London can you stop for less than £30/night?

Their sites are usually of a high standard although the most popular ones do tend to get booked up in advance. Some people hate them because they have very specific rules about pitching positions etc. If you're doing three five day stays and they have sites where you want to go then i would try it for a year and see what you think. We joined last year to be in a particular place and found it fine.

A lot of people complain about their unhelpful wardens but we've stayed in six of their sites and only once had one we found anything less than charming.
You also get 15% discount from mountain warehouse and other outlets

We are a member of both by default really, I joined CCC before I knew of the C & MH club, not used either for sites but have used the discount card. Both their magazines are more geared up for caravan owners which i find annoying. I wanted to book Chatsworth and it was full so not happy about that, might try some of their sites this year, we only got Betty in late August and have mainly used pitch up.
grounded at the minute as dh has dislocated his shoulder and I can't drive her because i can't reach the peddles!

I tried to book Chatsworth as well.

As the two nights we’re going to cost £96 we decided even though we could actually get a pitch, there was no way I was paying that much!

A fully serviced would be over £50 a night.

People must pay as the place is always full, the mind boggles.

It’s a nice site and you have direct access into the park. We stayed there for 5th November and the Chatsworth fireworks. It ended up costing a fortune and it really wasn’t worth it. The fireworks were very disappointing and the Chatsworth firm were milking it with endless food stalls and not a lot else.

The following year we went to a local display. It cost £1.50 each and it was so much better than rip off Chatsworth.

We are members of both clubs and haven’t used a club site for several years now, they are mostly way overpriced!
Most Pubs will allow you to stay one night if you ask nicely & point out you will be eating & drinking there!
As said previously join for a year and try it!

We use CP because of the convenience for getting into London for shows. Bus stop within 1/4 mile direct to the centre and because we have bus passes it's free so offsets the slightly higher costs.

The answer to that is Abbey Wood on the other side of London, another C&MC site and a good one too. They’re both excellent sites and, as you say, cheap as chips compared to alternatives in that area.

But I don't think it's on a direct bus route. I know you can get a train but that costs;)

Yes, but train is actually faster than No3 bus from Crystal Palace....can’t recall cost tho’ but not eye watering as I would remember I think.

I used to think that Abbey Wood was the nicer of the two London CC sites sites. Train is frequent and close or cycle in along the Thames Path. Train is easy, just flash a different credit card for each ticket. If cost is an issue, you probably won't be a member of that organisation (it's not really a club).
Abbey Wood is also within LEZ.

As well as the site and CL network they also offer some heavily discounted ferry fares on some routes.

I have booked a Saturday Hull to Zeebrugge crossing in September with upgrade to outside cabin for £181.66, P&O cheapest fare was £251 plus £10 cabin upgrade.

WE also had a day crossing from Liverpool to Dublin with cabin for £120 last September, from memory the P&O price was over £200.

There's a tube stop at Newbury Park!

In your opinion. My comment about cost was as a self mocking OAP. I much prefer sitting on one bus for approx. 45mins and seeing the London sights than the hassle of negotiating the underground system. Plus Crystal Palace has a decent café culture and there's the park behind the site.

Abbey Wood is a nice site, a sort of leafy oasis in the suburbs. That said, I prefer Crystal Palace simply because there’s a lot more going on in the vicinity, vibrant pubs & shops etc while there’s not much at all at Abbey Wood.
