Is it pointless looking for ferry bookings for next year?

My experience with DFDS Ferries when we had to cancel our Dover- Dunkerque ferry for our planned Greece trip earlier this year was very good. They offered to give us a 12 month credit but instead gave us a full refund when requested. When I book again, I will book the return leg on a flexi ticket so I can amend my return date at no or minimal cost. However, Like many others I guess next year I will not be booking ferries and purchasing Travel insurance until we get the green light from all the relevant countries, F.O. etc., at least this time around we know what to expect. Onwards & Upwards.

We've booked trips through BF as usual.

They'll be telling us next not to go to bed as on average most Covid deaths occur there.

I havn't looked again for a week or so, but both P&O & DFDS had nothing shown on their websites beyond the 23rd December 2020. It seems as if they have just given.
I sent the following email to Puke 'n' Orrible some time back and recieved a laughable replt including a link which directed me to the Government Brexit information site. I've given up!

"I am hoping that your new website (what was wrong with the old one?) is intended as some sort of joke.

I have just spent another 40 minutes for the second evening on the trot attempting to obtain a quote for a Dover-Calais crossing at any time between 28th December 2020 and the 10th of January 2021.

The experience has left me extremely frustrated and has not endeared your company to me one little bit.

What is going on?

I am not a fan of the Channel Tunnel in any way, but in less than 3 minutes I had a clear and specific offer of a place for our vehicle at the date and time of my choice. The cost was less than £20 more than you charged us for our crossing last year.

I cannot be the only potential customer that you seem intent on driving into the open arms of your rival."

We booked for May/June last year when it was supposed to be safe to go, as booked through camc they would not refund only change , which was to December, thought about changing it back to September, but still not safe, has to be used by late June 2021 or we just lose the money paid, this was using the tunnel, as long as trains are running they will not refund, so , may go or not next year, we will have to wait and see. The dog is all vaccinated and ready to go. We may lose money, bus as long as still here, won’t mind so much.

I feel you are correct. We do need to live with it. I don’t know what that would entail but hope it won’t mean spending the rest of our lives locked away in our house. To me that wouldn’t be living it would be existing
yes they need to plan so that the country and economy can function with the situation as/is and without people being locked down.

Yes I've always had excellent service from them.
One thing I will point out is that you do not "amend" your flexible ticket. It is valid 72 hrs either side of the booked crossing at no extra cost and you just turn up. You are put on the next boat.
If ,being Brits and polite and you ring to amend and let them know the staff are instructed to charge the difference between fares.
That's all I ever do now turn up ,usually around 48hrs+ early. Also flexible gives you total refund if you need to cancel, which I had to do ,unfortunately, on 3 occasions last year.

Antibodies don't seem to hang around long enough for a vaccine to be effective.

Personally I won't be booking anything until 2022.
Antibodies never do! Instead, your T-cells prime B-cells (which have a memory for making antibodies) when a new infection arrives.

But then, I’m not going to be an “early adopter” of a new vaccine either!

Personally I won't book anything for future trips, most insurance now will not cover cancellation I may have to pay a bit more booking closer to the travel date but far less risk and stress
CAMC Red Pennant is still covering Covid 19 cancellation, according to their website

We have BF booked for end of Jan to Spain, if we cant go we will move it to later on but I'm reasonably confident we wil be able to travel

Ordinarily I would agree and pre motor home we often did the same for other holidays, except often only days in advance rather than a month, but the Italy to Greece ferries that we use need to be booked ASAP when they release their dates, especially the outgoing April one, as the open decks get full very quickly.
Is it much better on the open decks? Has anyone booked this ferry for next year yet?

If...and it is a big 'if'...the vaccine proves to work and becomes available I wonder if there will be a mad rush to book ferries, a bit like when lockdown1 finished and loads of people flooded the tourist spots here in the UK. A bit too early to book just yet though.

Hi Alb, here's the response i've just got from ANEK LINES :-

"In reply to your e-mail we inform you that we expect for next year's itineraries to be announced near Christmas, so check again our website during that period, since when they will announced, they will be posted in our official website "

I'll be trying again early December 🚢

Pete
