Is it legal for a passenger to walk about while motorhome is in motion?

But has anyone ever been fined or do we only know of anecdotal fines?

Like anecdotal gas attacks

Like anecdotal sightings of Elvis singing to Michael Jackson?

Just asking for a "mate"
As per the post Eddie, the guy I spoke to said he was actually fined.
I think most people move about whilst driving,my Mrs has done it for years when nature calls or a cupboard door is open or the fridge not on 12v,to name but a few reasons.
She has even woke up in the morning to find I'm 100 miles down the road from where she fell asleep 😅.
Each to their on I suppose 🤷.
Cheers Cris 🍻

We arrived at the channel tunnel, the train before ours had loaded so I moved up to the lights ready for our train.
My wife needed the toilet, no problem, she had mobility problems and I had to help her to the toilet.
I returned to the drivers seat.
A minute or so later the traffic light turned green.
I had to move, she stayed on the toilet until parked up on the train, it's a long bumpy ride !

:giggle:

I've been driving 45 years and never had a crash on 4 wheels.
To suddenly suggest that a 10 second walkabout will kill you is a bit silly.

Great interesting thread.

I think it depends on what you are doing...
A few years back whilst I was driving the Brussels ring road,
Nikki was having a shower in the back and I was pulled over.
Apparently, I had left the waste open and the officer was annoyed that she was depositing her pubes and shampoo all over the road.

Another time nikki was driving and I was making out with my latex doll in the dining suite. The police saw me and gave me a stark warning of not being strapped in when on a forward facing seat. I thought this was a bit harsh tbf.

So, in essence, as long as your waste is shut and you are physically moving then you are OK...

One word of caution.

Nikki once made me a full roast whilst driving down through France. If you do cook on the move, make sure you check the oven remains lit. As if it goes out you will find that the lamb is not cooked through properly and this "could" lead to food poisoning 😑

It's all down to timing, I doubt this took more than 10 seconds to happen.

About same odds as getting shot by a gun

On the regular occasions I have to nip back to put the drawer lock on or get something from the fridge I just get jade to hold the wheel for a few minutes . It's much better since I got the tracking done

Recent prosecutions for uk motorists include Eating while driving, Drinking beverage while driving, Using phone while driving and this included using it as a sat nav. In essence anything that takes the drivers attention off the road is illegal. The sat nav in my car can only be fiddled with when the vehicle is stopped for example. (Hyundai)

Beats shaking the butt or stamping the feet and would probably save on loo roll too 👍🏻

Think you might be onto something there 😀

Fife police made headlines years back for a 3 car and a helicopter call out because a woman was eating an apple on the A92 east bound 😁
Can't remember all the details but I believe no prosecution took place

Just posing an answer to a question on a different thread, but is it legal for any passenger to get up and move about in the back of a motorhome whilst it is underway?
Coaches have toilet compartments for passengers to use while the coach is in motion, and they used to have (maybe still do) hostesses who bought drinks round while the coach was in motion.

I was listening to a local radio somewhere in the states, and people were ringing in with the most bizarre thing that they had ever a driver doing, one was peeling potatoes, I think it was in stop start traffic and not doing speed down a highway. Mmmm chips

Why??

It’s their choice. It won’t harm you.
Not true, the driver is held responsible for ensuring passengers are wearing seat belts. Highway Code rule 100:

"The driver MUST ensure that all children under 14 years of age in cars, vans and other goods vehicles wear seat belts or sit in an approved child restraint where required (see table above). If a child is under 1.35 metres (approx 4 feet 5 inches) tall, a baby seat, child seat, booster seat or booster cushion MUST be used suitable for the child’s weight and fitted to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Laws RTA 1988 sects 14 & 15, MV(WSB)R, MV(WSBCFS)R & MV(WSB)(A)R"

So what’s not true?

Me not wearing a seat isn’t going to harm you. So has nothing to do with you.

I think it's illegal to walk about. But if so, we've broken the law on every single trip we've ever made these last 35 years. No one gets up without permission from the driver, and permission is often delayed till they say so. Thereafter, toilet breaks, tea and coffee brewing, sandwich making, it all goes on.
I think it’s illegal to walk about….. ‘pretty’ crawl to the fridge and bring me a beer….

Wots a Highway Code? And who in their right mind holidays with under 14 year olds! Unless they can cook, clean, empty bins, toilets and keep perfectly quiet! Then if they have money, maybe….
Any little brat under 4’5” would be stretched on a rack too.

You could harm him!

Many years ago, in a 'Split-Screen' VW Camper without a seatbelt fitted, I had a head-on collision and was thrown through the windscreen, bouncing along the road for a 100yards apparently, I must have been unconscious as I remember nothing.

I sustained a crushed vertebra, broken left leg where it hit the windscreen dividing bar and a lot of abrasions.

Had you been a child or pedestrian within that 100yds, and been hit by a 100kg object
(ME), who knows the outcome? 😱

PS. The Police estimated that we were both doing approx 40mph and he was coming around the bend on my side of the road.

Wow, if that was a month ago you would get £trillions in compo!

So no one has been fined, only third hand accounts

Not sure what the crime would be truthfully

I don’t think anyone on the thread is under 14

bed-sits on wheels
Never heard them referred to as that before but you're right! 😄

Why not wear seatbelts and sit still - once you're over 10 years old it's not difficult 🤷
Ya think? Judging by some of the comments on here it seems some can't bear to be restricted or have common sense ... and then complain about kids not doing as they're told. It seems that as some people get older they revert to old age teenagers. 😄

On the regular occasions I have to nip back to put the drawer lock on or get something from the fridge I just get jade to hold the wheel for a few minutes . It's much better since I got the tracking done
But just think of the exhilarating ride if you let Blu drive! 😆

Another thing to get the scaredy-cats quivering

Who likes to use a slow cooker when driving and arrive after a long drive to enjoy a lovely Beef Stew in red wine

If a driver needs to nip to the fridge for beer, I'm sure it would be OK for the passenger to hold the wheelfor a while.
But suppose it would be better for the passenger to fetch the beers :)
As long as you belt them while they do it

Talking of bizarre things people do in cars.
Many years ago I worked in the West End and drove in everyday.
Those of a certain age and who know the geography will remember the queues of traffic where the M40 ended and the slow crawl up to Swakelys Road roundabout and then to the Polish War memorial.
Many male drivers ( myself included) used to take the opportunity of shaving, naturally with a cordless battery operated electric shaver. Countless numbers of female drivers could be seen applying make up!
To see people reading papers as not unusual.
