Is it legal for a passenger to walk about while motorhome is in motion?

You must have cast iron feet then! I am also a flip flop and shorts wearer when its hot but only on the little Honda scooter (auto). I dont think I would fancy racing up the Hartside pass through the gears on my Vstrom in flip flops, I'd have no toes left by the top. :D
I wear the right gear when I'm off for a blast.
But no fear wearing minimum riding into town.

spoke to a guy on the site i was on last month in Spain and he had just been done.
2 motorbike cops,he had a lorry pull in behind him and a cop then pulled in front of him and the other behind the lorry.
He thought the lorry was being pulled but it was him for his wife being out of her seat, i cant remember if it was 100 or 200 euros he was fined ,so fines do happen, well in Spain anyway.

cheers Cris.🍻
Ooh, in Europe it’s different!
We regularly take kids on school trips, and the rules ARE different there, they have to have specific adult to pupil ratios, and kids can’t sit in emergency exit rows, and they CANT leave their seats. Same applies to the adults 😳👍

Oooooh…..have I found the one and only Brexit bonus🤭

Funny thread...I am going to add a dark side to being unbelted in any vehicle having picked up occupants 100 meters up road from site of accident or a child who we had difficulty finding in a crash situation, but the mother we extracted continuously screaming about her baby in the car...under the front passenger seat the baby was recovered from...mother recovered unfortunately the baby not..back in the 70s child seats weren't over popular..
Now let's get back to the banter...more fun please..🤔🇪🇦🧑‍✈️

As more people wear seatbelts then don't you would expect the deaths of seatbelts wearers to be higher, but the number of deaths overall would reduce if everyone wore seatbelts.
Ah, now there’s a thing called “Risk Compensation”. It says that the safer you feel, the more risk you will accept…..which is why the greatest safety device never fitted to any vehicle is a big metal spike in the middle of the steering wheel 😳

I too have come across an unbelted child on the road after an accident, this was even after the seat belt laws were introduced. It was a horrific scene. Difficult to reconcile loving them, in my mind, with putting them in such an obviously dangerous position.

I think it could be aimed at anybody.
I often ride my 200 BHP motorcycle in t-shirt, shorts and flip flops
My choice

Slightly off topic, but:

Hmmmm - after 30 feet you are down to the bone!!!!
Dress for the slide. Not the ride.
ATGATT

Etc etc

I too ride a motorcycle, but it’s often the soft tissue injury that results in the amputation.
I know we are into the smoking/biking/mountainering/drinking argument, but it’s a tad unfair on the NHS to not at least take some care.

If I could predict if/when my accident would happen, I’d dress or seat belt accordingly. But I can’t, so take sensible precautions.

I used to keep a 650cc bike in Spain for the odd jaunt, however, before l knew better l would consider a ride but by the time l had got the Bike out and my leathers on etc l was absolutely soaked in sweat and invariably didn’t do the ride.
I now know there is some fabulous gear available that’s aireated etc but it was still a toil in the heat until you were moving.Alas no longer.

Even if I had a co-driver, I don’t think I would risk going to the loo while it’s in motion.

Can you imagine the embarrassment if you were rear ended 😳
I have used the loo on a motorway twice as I remember. Once on the M25 doing zero mph after a long wait, the second on the M4 I think where a heavily pregnant lady also knocked on the door to see if we would let her use the onboard facility. Never while moving though. Been a few occasions when I pulled off the road urgently for the same reason.

Why??

It’s their choice. It won’t harm you.
It's been mentioned acouple of times in this thread, passengers leaving their seat in a MH and the driver has had to brake for whatever reason. The passenger has been injured.

So if the passenger, instead of hitting the table, hits the driver who loses control then that would/could affect you and others.

The forces involved in a crash are incredible, few people can really comprehend the results.

Just keep belted up, it's plain common sense.

Sure, there maybe occasions when it's needed to jump up, but I really can't think of any real reason to not wait for a few minutes.

Just my two pennyworth....

But has anyone ever been fined or do we only know of anecdotal fines?

Like anecdotal gas attacks

Like anecdotal sightings of Elvis singing to Michael Jackson?

Just asking for a "mate"

I agree with you The Saints, that is the correct attitude. But I would like to think that all of this thread is just light hearted banter for having a laugh. I really do not believe people actually do move around freely in the van while driving, we certainly don't.

So?

But its personal choice, like Paragliding Scuba diving or mountain climbing

To those that are risk adverse. I also don't wash fruit, drink water abroad and (and this is a biggie) ask for ice in my drinks when in foreign countries!

I really can't think of any real reason to bother stopping if someone needs a wee or wants to make a sandwich

My two pennyworth ;)

I and my family had been wandering around RV's all over Europe since I was 28 years old, some 35 years ago

Hi Dave, I/we did school trips, including ski stuff, up until 30yrs ago but I've never heard the one about no seating in the 'emergency exit'.
Do you mean the 'continental door' one, (halfway down the coach on the drivers side) were searbelts must be worn, or the other at the back.
Tell me more? 🤔

Reminds me of the time I was going to Austria and 2 VERY Old Ladies had booked the two seats, just behind the toilet and the steps that led down to the continent door.

I HAD warned ALL the men at the beginning of the trip, that when visiting the toilet, they MUST sit down, even for a pee and, as usual, knew that most would ignore my advice.

As I say, while travelling down the autobahn, this young man went into the toilet when, 3 minutes later, I HAD to brake SHARPLY because, some idiot, swerved across the motorway in front of me.

There was a big bang halfway along the coach, down near toilet, and this young, good looking man, equipment in hand, came flying out backwards, through the smashed door because, when I braked, he had been STANDING, facing the pedestal.

He had been thrown forward, knocking himself out on the overhead locker and on the rebound, had smash back out the door.

One of the Old Ladies had a stroke......the other tried but she couldn't quite reach! 😢

You're right of course.

No one in their right mind would do anything so silly.

I must be taking things too seriously...!!!

And when the wife nips to the loo, it’s always my luck that a squirrel runs in front of me, and I have to swerve to miss it….🤔😂

My Eldest when he was 25 asked if he could use our camper for a weekend climbing with his best mate
When he returned I asked him did they enjoy having the camper
They both said yes especially when Christopher was driving and Adam was having a shower

Given the clearly delinquent, devil may care, rules are for sissies type of response this serious enquiry has attracted (at least I assume it was serious but there again, what a brilliant popcorn post if it wasn't), it's a wonder anyone would ever open a campsite. Anarchy is clearly just around the corner wherever motorhomers gather in their bed-sits on wheels and you'd think the risk would be too much but then it is clear that the afore mentioned delinquents steer well clear of places that might expect some collective responsibility for the enjoyment of the facility. Who'd have thought motorhoming is the last frontier for some . . .
