Still dropping clangers and making it up as I go along
A metered campsite has just quoted

36p a kw metered ehu is this expensive?

They also want an extra £4.00 for a pitch with a meter

Asking those who use ehu regularly as I have no idea , but to me it's paying twice

When I was on ehu a few weeks ago there was a pitch price with ehu then if you exceeded the allowance it was then metered .I didn't use the allowance so didn't matter what I used

36p a kw isn’t too bad but charging for the socket as well that’s taking the mick 🥴 it’s obvious that site owners are trying all sorts of ideas to rake money off us 🙀 One or the other but not charge both charges.

If having electric on a meter I wouldn’t expect to pay extra for ehu

That's what I thought tbh, 4 nights is extra £16 then leccy on top .......

We have been charged 32p at Dakota Farm Coningsby, but 60p at Burnham Deepdale per KW metered.

About £23 per night or £1 less for non EHU pitch now according to their website

Thanks , could have looked . It's seems a bit odd though 2 vans at the site parked next to each other one plugged in one not and o e is paying more

It's a cheap site so in my mind I would charge the same for all pitches as they all seem to have ehu

I'm not there so don't know the set up.

It gets more expensive in high season. I like the site because good walks , close to coast, Shops and fuel 👍🏻

I am paying 36p per KW at home for my peak rate electricity and 15p (both approx) for off peak electricity - which is why I charge my battery at off peak and use it during the peak rate period. Perhaps the site is also on the same sort of billing structure - though that doesn't account for cheaper off peak use ....

Economy 7 ..

Our EDF account ..

Day rate: 40.72p per kWh Night rate: 20.68p per kWh

That is probably the unit cost they are paying as it’s not legal to inflate the unit costs. The £4 is where they get the infrastructure costs back
Perhaps they should question the unit cost with their supplier......or perhaps they are ignoring the legalities.

Our charge at home.

I suppose I should check how much I'm paying at home for leccy.

I don't think the question would have been raised if the vans were not parked together.

I'm wondering if there a field not inuse at this time of the year ? Without hookup

So theyre charging you £4 extra per night to monitor just how much you are using ?

Might they only put electrics on what they consider premium pitches, maybe bigger or hard standing

Then you are paying for the premium pitch not the meter

Installing EHU with meters costs a big wedge of money,

they are legally allowed to charge for the cost of the infrastructure, ongoing maintenance and compulsory testing .. with I suspect the £4 is for

It's an interesting scenario could be one van gets free upgrade of pitch.
I have checked my leccy bill at home i pay 30p kw.

We swapped to a single tariff when I realised the government cap doesn’t apply to economy 7 rates 🤔🙁

Max price is now below 30p for domestic accounts
with night storage heating, I don't believe we have that option..

On the site we were on a few weeks ago owner reckons he was paying 57p per kwh for his electric.

In the UK you are not permitted to charge more than the electricity costs unless you are the provider.

Therefore it would appear Burnham Deepdale:
  • They have their own hydroelectric turbine or nuclear power station at the bottom of the garden.
  • They made the mistake of buying their electricity forward at a fixed rate and this is what their supplier is ripping them off at.
  • They are illegally ripping off their guests and need to be reported to OffWatt

This thread makes me chuckle, on other threads people were saying if they didn't use electric the pitch should be cheaper now in this thread its the opposite argument.....

Same as us.

That's expensive, have a look at Octopus.
yes cheaper..
Octopus

⚡ Electricity
Daily standing charge 42.11p /day
Unit rate (day) 35.37p /kWh
Unit rate (night) 14.84p /kWh

it is cheaper, but we have an exit fee of £150 contract ends in May 24

2 vans on same pitches
They are next to each other
One plugged in one not
2 different rates.
Same pirch type

But my question was is 36p expensive as I have no idea

Seems the consensus is no

The pitches are £10 or £14 pn.looks like one van got free upgrade without leccy

My next thought is if you book.leccy and don't use any is there a minimum fee.?
