Prices are likely to drop over the next year. There were some good deals before covid for less than £20k as an intro to motorhoming. I'm confident similar options will return over the next 24 months.

Someone else said that to me that they will drop so reckon it’s best to wait a year or two

DON"T WAIT A YEAR OR TWO! Maybe a month or two max. What price do you put on a couple of years enjoyment in a motorhome? Just buy one and get out there, in two years you could be dead (y)

Yes I do get what your saying and I thought that my self but 20 grand is lot money to us and I don’t want end up putting it into something that’s won’t last, but I am gonna go for it I am in mid 20s so I would hope Il still be here in 2 years 🤣 but you are right

No-one really knows what will happen to motorhome prices in the next few years. I'd say look for something with a solid chassis, no serious corrosion, & no damp. Then it should last a good while. Other issues can be fixed. There are many good older vans that have been well looked after. Get out there and start making memories

I know van prices are a bit silly at moment but how many are sold for silly money?
15 year old vans are selling close to what they cost new so I would buy wisely so you have half a chance getting close to what you spent come sale time 👍

If I was in my mid Twenties , and had the discipline to save that sort of money, I wouldn't have a problem waiting a year, or two.

With the state of the economy now unfortunately people who have overextended themselves financially will need to sell off the extras to be able to pay the mortgage, add to this those that default and have MoHo's repossessed and the market will become flooded with them.

Simple supply and demand dictates that not only will you have more to spend in a year or two, but your money will also buy a lot more MoHo than right now.

Obviously this is just my opinion, others may have different views.

Cheers

My mate bought a 1989 self build conversion on a transit chassis for £6000.
New battery, new stainless exhaust and a bit of minor fettling including an engine oil leak and they use it quite regular.

You have saved the money to buy it and as others have said good ones are around for that money. By choosing well, you will have the use of it with your young family, going to places that maybe would otherwise mean leaving the dog behind. If you then look after that MH, it will lose very little money when you come to upgrade.

I remember you telling your mate off for buying that one 😂

I definitely wouldn't buy yet, the prices are ridiculous.
Scrap is selling for £20k 😳

IMO ☺️👍

PS building your own makes more financial sense.

Don’t wait, tomorrow might be your last 😳 we simply do not know that but it’s as good a reason as ever to live your life now.
l started with a doer upper at low money at your age with two lads in tow and have moved on considerably as you do in life but l wouldn’t change my choice of starting as l did.
Do buy a branded Motorhome/ Campervan ,self builds are okay and some are very well built but they will never make the money on selling that a branded product will if we’ll presented.

I would want to buy from the "person" who has used the Motorhome rather than a dealer.

There are plenty of Motorhome forums where individuals are selling and it usually includes some extra "accessories" .
Join a couple of forums and bide your time ,
There is a wealth of knowledge on the forums!

Kind regards.

Are you handy? You could do a panel van conversion on that budget, especially if you don't want lots of fancy gadgets.
Then you could have a newer, lower mileage vehicle.
Depends of course on your skills and time available.

You can do very well for that budget on a self build.
I'm currently doing our second van and we should want for nothing, it's a 2015 nissan NV400 base van, all done Inc purchase price should be around 10k.
It will have plenty of water, inside toilet, 240v and 12v system, solar, fixed double bed, and dining area, hot outdoor shower etc.

If you can do it, or know of local people that can help, go self build.

In the Classified’s…..I’ve no connection to the seller, but worth a look / barter?🤷‍♂️

I think that this particular MH is bound to be a great buy. GJH is a longtime member and MH owner and contributor to all things motorhoming in particular finding parking spots and asking councils for motorhome parking.
I don’t know him personally but am sure that this is a well maintained vehicle.
I am not sure that the poster Badbeat21 can view classified as he is not a paid up member but here is the for sale thread

We have a 2004 Boxer based Autocruise. It's mechnically sound and the habitation area pretty much as new - there are a number of vehicles of that age about in your price range (we paid a bit over £20k for ours three years ago), so don't buy unless you're really happy with the service history and condition of the interior.
There are some things to keep in mind with older motorhomes like the age of the tyres and when the cambelt was last changed as they ideally need changing at much lower mileages than on vehicles that are out and about every day - commercial vehicles are designed to be thrashed. Anything you buy will most likely have a Euro 4 engine or thereabouts so you'll need to accept that an increasing number of towns across Europe are a bringing in restrictions like Low Emission Zones, which you either can't go in, avoid or pay to enter. We estimate it'll cost us about £25k plus PX if we're lucky to get to a Euro 6 engine, so we're not bothering.
One thing I enjoy about an older vehicle is I'm not too stressed about poking holes in it to fit and fettle stuff.

I’m clueless when comes to that kind of stuff so it would mean paying someone to do everything

I did look at that but I’m clueless and wouldn’t have clue and I don’t know anyone who would do that’s why I can’t go down that route

Hmm I'd disagree with that , self builds are fetching silly money that's why there's so many folk building them and selling them on quirky campers etc.

I've seen 4 varios fetch over £45k in the last 6 months
