Irish pet passport

I know it gets boring. Does anyone know how currently, we take our pet to northern ireland and get a pet passport. The quotes I have for a ahc are ridiculous at our vets, with rabies jab and ahc it's nearly £400. So thinking of going to ni and getting a pp over the border in the republic. Is this possible and can anyone recommend a vet that issues pp. It's going to be similar price and get a holiday out of it as well. Any help advise welcome.

AFAIK it's possible, no AHC required for NI and no border between NI and the Republic. Also do a search for AHC I have it booked for £149 for 2 dogs, that's with a specialist. The rabies shots are being done by our own vet.

A quick search of the previous threads show up Anne Scott at Tulnaree House, Carndonagh, Co Donegal is used by many on here. I get mine in Belgium so cant recommend.

AHC required for NI. Can't get on a ferry without one as NI treated the same as Ireland which is an EU member.

Explored all this earlier this year and decided with ferry costs etc not to bother. Emailed a couple of NI gov depts and got strange replies (official doc) that an AHC is required to export the Dog to NI. Replied saying not exporting just visiting etc. Got the same back, no explanation or addition comment.

Costs for AHC vary greatly so shop around.

We used the Stranraer crossing and no dog documents were required or asked for.
We then got the dog an Irish passport at Carn vets in Donegal, cost €50 and the same for a rabies booster. The vet said that she did 2 or 3 a day!
It was very straightforward and we've used it twice since on the Chunnel, again straightforward and without issue.

You definitely do not need an AHC to go Cairnryan to Belfast, came home a couple of days ago. My Stena booking declared the dog but she hasn’t even been mentioned at check in for years. Equally there are no checks whatsoever on the Border into the Republic. Only evidence is that roads are better in the Republic! I did get an EU passport a few years ago from Anne Scott in Carndonagh, never been used at all. I go over to Donegal regularly to visit family.

Anne was on holiday when we got our pet passport. Got it from Carn Vets in Carndonagh. Cost with rabies was around £75.

Also you have clearly never experienced travelling across the Border from NI to Republic. It is becoming less obvious as time goes by.

Yes, that refers to the Windsor Framework, which has not yet been implemented with regards to pet travel.

The AHC is required for entry into NI - all part of the arrangements created by effectively putting the border down the Irish Sea. Paragraph 3 on this link.

Take your pet dog, cat or ferret abroad: getting a pet passport or export health certificate, microchip, vaccinations and tapeworm treatments.

This is actually quite a tricky issue in many respects. Yes, technically an AHC is required to enter Northern Ireland from GB but since September 2021 checks have been suspended. So if I was only intending on visiting Northern Ireland (and not continuing on into the Republic of Ireland), there is no way that I would be forking out for an AHC.

I keep saying this.
ABBEYWELL VETS.
They will do an AHC online, you still have to take the animal to have Chip read and collect the AHC but it’s under £100.
If you have several animals the charge is less and if you want repeat AHCs that charge is less!
People seem to think they have to get stuff like that from ‘their’ Vet, the Vet their animal is registered with.
No. You can use any Vet you want, just because you’re registered with Fred down the road doesn’t mean you have to use him for jab/worming/etc.
Because we travel about Pippa has seen several different Vets here and in France, as I always look at their prices, I think it’s bad that there is no regs on Vets pricing!

I have booked our two in with petpass, they have 3 sites, we're going to Havent. First time using them, £150 for both dogs. The jabs are being done by our own vet, cost unknown yet.
