International Driving Permit

I live in one of the most densely populated areas of the country.
Go on with you its nearly the wilderness in Newhaven..BUSBY

Nothing worse than paying for something that no one ever asks for, when stopped I've only been asked for my passport never asked to see a driving license.

Just think of all those €1 beers you could have bought with the money.

Don't forget all those French breathalysers as well that you rushed out and bought :france: :france:

If like me you have an Irish Passport as well as a UK passport you will still need IDP in the EU after 2020, if you only have a UK drivers Licience.
here are three options and I think you need generally need 1949 and 1968 to cover ALL european countries, except one, I seem to recall.
I also have 1926 which if memory serves me well covers 1 obscure European country which I think is Liechtenstein or possibly Luxembough.

I'd guess Liechtenstein, as I seem to remember I needed a 1926 for Brazil and was surprised that there was a link to somewhere obscure and I'd be surprised if it was Luxembourg, as its closely aligned with France.

Just for clarity!
Does that mean there are a lot of folk packed in (socially distancing, obviously) or there are a few folk most of whom are thick?:whistle:;):giggle:

Tell me about it! I'm with you on this. I pay good money to keep legal the least I deserve is a bleeding check on all my documents once in a blue moon. I think there will be a shed load of checking after December.
Phil, you are just hankering for a good old fashion Customs search aren't you. You miss the snap of those Marigolds .................. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I had an IDP for years long before the EU licence rubbish and never had to produce it, luck of the draw :drinks:
Cant see it being needed remember if EU makes it awkward for us, EU will need special licences to drive in UK so it will never happen, it all works 2 ways.

What you say makes sense. However, this could get very, very political with an acrimonious split between the E..U. & U.K. resulting in the E.U. punishing the U.K. If this happens any hardship imposed upon visitors from the U.K. will be of no concern what-so-ever to Brussels. We will know soon enough !

A few weeks or so ago I stumbled on a list of Countries that we need one for and was surprised that things have changed,it looked like all the most traveled countries for us now we don't need one but I am buxxxxed where I saw it now. Dooooh. I am sure one of you will be faster than me on search. Bruce

Why didn't you get an irish one when they were giving them away in 1977 ?:LOL:advance planning, that's where you've fallen down.
U will need special licences to drive in UK so it will never happen, it all works 2 ways.
The only ones 'driving in the UK ' will be delivering food & the EU wouldn't worry about stopping them.

Nothing political at all. The UK is a signatory to the three International Conventions which predated the EU. Membership of the EU conferred reciprocal driving licence recognition. Our EU membership ends and that reciprocity ends. We revert to the status quo. Ergo we require IDPs. Not that complicated.

Think we had this discussion back in November. :yawn2:

I took an IDP to India last year and got pulled by the police for not wearing a helmet. The penalty for no helmet with IDP = £1.00!!! I asked him how much the penalty would be for no helmet and no IDP...he said £10.00!! After squaring up, we hopped back on to the scooter and went to put our helmets on, the policeman said "no need, no problem"...if we get stopped again just show the paperwork he issued and we wouldn't get fined again  Happy Days!! :giggle:
