Just renewed my van insurance, £150 increase in price BUT now no driving other vehicles, ( now can’t use the garages courtesy car when the van is in getting work done) increase of excess from £200 to £800😡
So pay more get less 😐

Just bought a Burstner aviano dreading getting insurance for it( not got it yet)!
Any tips?

All you can do is shop around. Have you tried comparison sites?

Surely the courtesy vehicle will be covered by the garages insurance.

Reducing annual mileage dropped mine quite a bit, made it the same as previous year.

I tried a lot comparison sites, brokers, the newly popular Ripe ( by the way price from on line to phone call went up £80.00 somehow - operate couldn't explain why just kept saying that's the price now despite giving him the quote reference from the previous 2 minutes search) ended up at Aviva through Comfort. Excellent service and cover for £300 less than anywhere else I could find. Van is 24 plate Globecar Summit Prime 640. IMO fantastic value at the moment

I got a quote of £319 for our Autotrail Apache 632 via Ripe using the MotorHomeFun club discount of 15% about 5 minutes ago. Type Ripe into the search bar top right of this page.
Best previous quote had been £400+

Got to be worth a try.

Cheers!

Hi Russ
Yes Ripe are the cheapest online quote for the Burstner Aviano at the moment 👍😁

Did you tell them that you had 15% automatic discount from MotorHomeFun?

As I found. It’s all about your post code and the time of your renewals.
For whatever reason the underwriting company (Aviva) blacklisted numerous postcodes mine included at time of renewal
Didn’t matter where you tried we were looking at a 150% increase.
Yet my street has no issues and the van is off road down the side of the house behind my car. Alarmed and tracker with cameras on as well.

They are all robbing ba****ds:mad::mad: in my opinion just making it up as they go

I got to Ripe when they were offering a 20% introductory discount so my quote was as cheap as it was getting. Took a price of 550 in the end via Comfort.

CAMC were good for me this year - similar price to my previous insurer (Comfort) but lower excess.

Need to be a member but might be worth signing up depending on price of insurance.

I store our MoHo in a secure storage site, perhaps that helps? Defo wouldn’t want it stored at home, apart from anything else it would be in the bloody way all the time!

How come Aviva will underwrite your MoHo and they won’t even quote me despite the fact that I have 5 cars with them?! What a bunch of tossers insurance companies are!!

You have missed what I said. Aviva blacklisted numerous post codes. Including mine.

I could not get a price from them even though I was already with them for years. Car and motorhome.

Comfort would not quote as soon as I said the postcode. This was confirmed by comfort and my current insurance broker. that it was because of Aviva. I then had to find another company that didn’t use Aviva

My insurance was for 1st September. My car is due end of January. It may change by then although I’m tempted to change just so I don’t give them my money. They don’t deserve my custom now.

Mine was just £20.00 more then last year with Comfort, tried Ripe £40.00 more the Comfort for the same level of cover.

Ours was only £24 more than last year with Comfort.

Every year I try the comparison sites and none come close to Comfort!

Maybe it’s our postcode but with a 6,000 mile cap it’s only £418 for the two of us on a Swift 674.

By comparison mine went from £450 to £1500

Words fail me on what I think of them.

I feel your pain, just had a renewal notice and it increased by 11% to around £729, so I had AIB run a quote and it was £10 dearer than the existing provider. I went back to the original broker and didn’t disclose how much I had been quoted by the new broker and managed to reduce the policy back down so I am only paying £20 more.

Never accept an increase of more than £50.
Shop around. Go back to original and ask to match.
Play with vehicle value, try adding and removing additional drivers.

This year saved £120 off renewal by adding wife to policy. Last year (I was still showing 6 points on licence almost expired) it saved £80 taking wife Off the policy.

Close friend was switching to a new/old car and the value was only £2000.
This meant an increase of £150 on policy.
Changed value to £1000 and it meant increase of £85.
Changed value to £1850
And she received a REFUND of £55 on policy..........

Our current insurance was £500 for our 22 Bailey, now bought a new motorhome and went to swap the insurance over to the new van, £3000 please. Needless to say I shopped around. Eventually went with Caravan guard for £700. This includes breakdown cover with no restrictions on size of vehicle. The likes of the AA, Comfort and others breakdown cover was restricted to under 8 metres, our new one is 9 metres. Something to consider if your motorhome is over 7.5 metres (some where less) and you want breakdown cover included.

Comfort breakdown covers 9m! At least that’s what I read on the policy document? Unless it’s changed recently? In which case, I may have a problem! 🤪

I will check again, sorry if I have given wrong information. I will reply once I have checked. It is still something to consider as some insurers do have restrictions.

Morning all,

I have just checked with comfort and the breakdown cover covers up to 20T and 12 meters, my apologies for giving the wrong information about Comfort, bear in mind there are restrictions wit some companies so worth checking. For me, Caravan guard were still £100 cheaper than comfort.
