Inexpensive security camera with remote access

I’m using and have installed other Reolink systems. None of us pay for our systems after initial purchase. Regardless of where the components come from.

The QR code link in that pic just takes me to App Store on my iPhone, and shows Reolink app. No notice of charges.

So, a bit of a mystery how that message in my earlier #19 post was generated, but makes me nervous about dealing with Reolink. However, I’ve since downloaded the App directly from the App Store and attempted installation. I’ve tried it on 2 wifi networks and in both cases it’s gone through the motions but ultimately failed to connect to the router(s) despite a message “successfully connected to the router”, so not too impressed at the moment. ☹️

I have just scanned that QR code from my PC screen and it just takes me to Reolink.com to install or in my case to reinstall the app, so that part of the process looks OK, though you can just go on the Google Play store and download the app without using the QR code.

Once you have the app you need to go to a screen which has a + sign in the top right corner and click on that to add the camera. You can then scan the QR code on the camera. If this is the point where you were getting sent to some dodgy content provider website then it would be advisable to click on manual input instead and manually type in the device UID which I think should be the number under the QR code. If there is no code there or it doesn't work then I would suspect the label and possibly the camera is not genuine

My app scans the QR code successfully and reports that the device is already registered, which is what I would expect.

Might be worth tuning off a VPN if you use one, just until you get the camera registered and setup.

Don’t have a VPN, but I’ve sent it back, couldn’t get it to connect to routers at home or in the van. All sorts of errors, even fell over when requested to name the camera during initialisation! Life is too short, I need something that works out of the box.
