Increase payload paper process

We were paying monthly by direct debit so yes I am correct and when updating you cannot continue with the direct debit you have to pay upfront for 6 or12 months. If one wishes to continue paying monthly it needs to be set up as the paid for period of ved expires.

Don't think that is correct as you have already paid more than the new VED. Didn't send a cheque with mine, they just refunded the difference but it did take them 4 months.
It's not correct, I've up plated 2 vans and they sent me the cheque both times.

Similarly, I wasn’t asked to pay back any of my higher rate VED, so that they could start me afresh on the new lower rate VED.

A short while after up-plating, I received a cheque from them without any prompting.

Current guidelines don’t suggest that anything has changed over the last 2 years.

Edit - I do however pay up front for my VED, which may be the crux of the issue ?

Just done this myself and rang them after a few weeks of hearing nothing back only to find out they had not received my paperwork. Well that is what they said. First time in my life documents have gone ‘astray’ when sending them to DVLA. As a result I had to complete a V62, resend my engineer report etc, and pay them £25 to replace the ‘lost’ V5. Sent it recorded/signed for this time!!

You can claim for up to £30 on regular post if lost and you have proof of posting

its a loosing battle over lost mail with DVLA. i had similar issues when i did mine and when phoning they would say " please write to us to tell us " what i had just told them!!!!

I am sure they have a deal with vehicle engineers to make life as difficult as possible for individuals so we all use the services of automotive engineers.

In truth its probably that DVLA trust what is sent them by professional engineers they know so just rubber stamp it.
whereas what the get from " the rest of us" they have to sign off themselves and dont want to do that for fear something is not right.

sad but i fear true!!

Hi all

I am applying to get my payload increased on the MH - apparently it’s a just paper process . Is anyone aware of any drawbacks ?
Jewellbags. Too many contradictory posts here. Did you actually get the information you needed?

If ONLY!! affraid not. there is a " procedure " to go through with the DVLA to ensure the up platting is acceptable to your chassis and wheel / tyre loadings.

you can look this up on the DVLA web site.

if your VED band is set at 3250 then it may well carry a plate to say it is capable of 4250 but it is not as far as i am aware legal to load the van above 3250.

and to get the ved class raised above 3250 you would have to jump through the DVLA hoops..

my van is plated 3850 and V5 showed 3500 to get it to above 3500 i had to comply with all DVLA hurdles. even thought the van already carried a plate 3850.
