in 35 years, I've never seen a photo of a van on a site in a motorhome brochure

Have a read of my latest article that delves into the world of the motorhome maker dream merchants, as they attempt to sell us their visions of an idyllic lifestyle. Yet, we soon uncover the illusion and embrace the truth - that reality surpasses even the most picturesque motorhome in a meadow. You can discuss the article here.

Auto-Trail are the masters of this. I have no idea who does their marketing but it is excellent. Every image, every video is superb and must leave non motorhomers salivating.

Was it definitely you and not FunBot that wrote it?

No fun bot in there, all me, read it and you'll know '\

The dream is possible,it just depends how much effort you put in👍

Even our daughters have mastered the art 🙂

Smoke and Mirrors, you never ever buy a product, you buy the dream, lifestyle, image, whatever you want......

You never see a farmer on a bike, you never see a MH on a crowded site, you never see a yacht crammed into a marina, you are shown what you want to see, and we fall for it every time, it can`t be helped just don`t borrow money to do it.....

Forget the manufacturers brochures.

The 'Clubs'??? are just as bad.

This months CandCC mag. has a feature of a Swift Voyager 594.

Its a four berth measuring 7.85m and the piece extols the virtue of its 3500kgs. MAM.

Its payload? not to include the dealer optional microwave, (and what else beside) =
408 kgs.

So, after you've added a 2nd battery, a tank of water, the spouse and two strapping kids is exactly what? precisely.

I forgot to add, the following page has a trailer tent, four berth that has the same 408kgs payload. Funny that?

Jim, I am sure your article reflects the experience of reality for many MH owners, but as your photos at the end show 'The Dream' spots can be found.

You would be hard pushed to find a photo of our MH on a campsite - I think we can count 6-8 in 14 years. We do use Aires but mostly by rivers, canals, in mountains and rarely in villages, usually then because we are visiting a winery.

In 2021 we went to Greece and wildcamped everywhere include 5 weeks on a small Greek Island where every night was spent within 10 metres of a beach. There is no campsite on the island. 2022 we had 2022 we had 3 weeks in SE Poland and all wildcamping in hills and around lakes.

It can be done.

I wonder what proportion of MHomers use campsites compared with wild/Aires and then those that mix the two?
We mix, 2-3 days travel/wild/aire-Stellplatz then 1-2 days onsite to refresh, sometimes 4-5 days on site if we like the area Eg: Roses....After a season or two you find your rhythm ....

We got right up to Franco’s Mausoleum just before lockdown - admittedly not overnight, but it was so empty I bet we could have!
