Importing new PVC from Germany post Brexit

I'm sure its been said before, but 2nd hand isn't out of the question now, all depends on the price, plus 20% and the costs of re-registering in the UK. But for me, if I do change, its likely to be new.

Hi Luke, We are due to collect from Dortmund next month. Do you mind sharing your experience re: VAT, and what needed to register in UK, Oh and what delay at DVLA.!
All best

If you search on here there is some great advice re what to do, but the first thing will be to complete the Nova form on line re payment of duty/vat and believe me there will be many on here who will be interested on what you have to pay, post Brexit, me included, as I’d like to change to something smaller already, so, some relevant questions, are you buying from a dealer, do you have to pay the German VAT up front and reclaim later? how are you getting it to the U.K.? Is it fitted with U.K. RHD lights? Will think of some other points later, I’m sure

PS, I recently had correspondence with a German dealer, who was not able to take in my U.K. registered Hymer, despite it only last year being a German registration and German VAT paid vehicle.

That messes it up a bit, part ex prices are always so much higher in Germany & Belgium.

I'm guessing that it's because they would now have to pay import duty on a used, GB registered van 🤔.

Knew you would pick up on that Lenny, I’m thinking it’s just a glitch and things would settle down, perhaps the dealer just couldn’t be bothered with the extra paperwork, I’m booked in with the dealer at Bad Waldsee on 20th Sept, on way towards home for a couple of minor warranty issues (sticking security lock on habitation door and dicky window strut) So will see what they say there and maybe the attitude is different in Belgium

Possibly, but in this case it was originally German duty paid, by the first German owner and I didn’t need to pay duty as it was just pre Brexit, but then logic doesn’t always apply to officialdom!

It's been a very frustrating journey for me so far but things are starting to move slowly. If you are about to collect your vehicle from Germany you are at a much more advanced stage than me!
I only found one dealer with an export department listed on their website. That dealer has been a complete waste of time. I contacted a couple more and one said "yes we do exports". He then went incommunicado for two months even leaving me hanging for 15 minutes without coming back to the phone. I am now back in email contacts with him (the least worse of the bunch) and trying to have some questions answered.
I have however spoken to one of their UK customers who's very kindly offered to give me some guidance.
The export pack you will have received from the DVLA should tell you everything you need to do. Here's the personal guidance I got from that customer who drove back from Germany a month ago.
Inform HMRC (online) in order to pay UK VAT. You need a copy of the invoice and the two Certificate of Conformity (CoCs) for the chassis and the cell.
You will have to pay German VAT to the dealer who will hold it in escrow until he receives proof that you have paid UK VAT.
The German dealer will fit German export licence plates to the vehicle which will give you third party insurance for 30 days. You can drive back home to the UK on the plates and also to the RIVA inspection and MOT garage but nothing else.
Insure the vehicle on the chassis number. You need to fit a Thatcham Approved alarm and some insurance companies insist on a tracker too.
Pay the UK VAT. Processing can take up to two weeks.
Wait for the HMRC certificate of tax paid and then send it to the German dealer for your refund.
Contact DVSA for the IVA inspection. Fill in the the form and pay for the inspection (£200.-). Wait two weeks for the appointment in which time you will have to modify the front lights, rear fog lights and speedometer to be UK compliant. Rear fog lights may not need to be modified on Ducatos as I am told that there is already a left and a right one.
Make any further changes that the inspection picks on. They may tell you to change some stickers to English for example.
Once passed, send to the DVLA;
form V55/4
IVA Certificate
German temporary registration certificate
proof of ID declaration that the vehicle is new (Form V267)
dated proof of collection from the dealer
final invoice from the dealer
the 2 CoCs
NOVA letter fom HMRC
Certificate of Motor Insurance
a cheque for £55.-
another cheque for the Road Fund Licence.

It is only after you've done all that that you can be issued with British plates.

There are probably some errors in what I've just put down as I was furiously scribbling whilst receiving the instructions on the phone. Please correct me on anything.

If I can get myself to Caravan Salon, I hope to finalise my order but it's probably 50/50 at the moment due to the level of service I had up to now.

Tell us more about your purchase Jezzer when you have news. Let's hope they are good!

PS. The dealer tells me the 2 CoCs are in German in French. Has anyone here, who has directly imported a new MH, encountered problems due to them not being in English?

You don't need to do that you fill in a form from the VCA and send it together with the C of C & statement from garage or MOT tester that changes have been done, costs £100.

Excuse my ignorance Lenny. Not that I'm not guilty of writing jargon too but what is VCA?
