IMPORTANT: Repeat Prescriptions - changes from April 2020

I`ve recently had a similar "conversation" with my Doctor. I`m resisting as I have heard some bad tales from other users.

That is quite correct, Pure waste of money IMV. But then it`s only Taxpayers Money (again). It cannot be beyond the "wit of man" to find a proper way of recycling them

According to doc I am at 10% level of having heart attack in the next ten years, so under NHS guidelines they have to offer statins. I am changing my diet by eating less cheese and butter so this may make a difference (some hope) before another blood test in April May time.
Wife has been on them for 15 years, high blood pressure and cholesterol in the family her sister died at 45 from heart problems, she does get some side effects but is convinced that she needs them.

I`m now back down to One tablet per day to keep my B-P. Lower. My old Doc, Was quite happy with my B-P being 160/80 (ish) most of the time. But the "new young brigade" seem to have different Views!. Hence a suggestion of Statins.? Not convinced they are for me. But we will see, Next Review September.

Carolyn a retired doctor on here in a previous post said she took them.
You are absolutely right that I am on Atorvastatin 40mg and am a great fan. I don’t have any side effects fortunately. Obviously I did a risk benefit analysis of my own. I know lots of doctors who take them. The benefits far outweigh the risks for me and many others. Modern medicine is great. I don’t smoke, don’t drink, eat very healthily, do 1 hour of aerobic exercise 5-6 times a week but have duff genes I presume. My parents died young of cancers so I need all the help I can get! Having their cholesterol measured wasn’t exactly a priority for them as they died young as my GP so cheerily pointed out, he’s a great friend.

I might still have a heart attack or a stroke but at least I will never have to think “if only”.

Every time I collect my two monthly repeat I'm given the form attached to the prescription and I tick what I need for the next issue. I'm then given a card telling me when to collect the next prescription. This has been the norm for sixteen years and apart from a couple of hiccups when staff in the pharmacy have changed I've not had a problem. I hope this system doesn't change !

I have an aversion to taking "pills". So for me the less the better. Currently on 2 daily. B-P one and One to control acid production. It has to be a bad one before I take even paracetamol. Best "painkiller"?. Red Wine, according to SWMBO!. Hence my "resistance" to the idea of Statins. Especially after some of the side effects reported by my peers.
