If you could tell a newbie to motorhomes one thing. What would it be.

Me, I would say join Fun and no matter what you think you know, bite your tongue when folk who really do know offer advice
I know I made a total fool out of myself in the very early days....( and no doubt still do sometimes !!! )

What you THINK you want in a Motorhome, probably won’t be what you ACTUALLY want. Join Fun before you buy - ask questions, ask for opinions on layout etc. Research vans, looking at payload, water/waste tank capacity, layouts.

Don’t rush into it. If we had bought the first van we looked at and fell in love with, we would have made a mistake.

At the earliest opportunity get it ready for that main holiday, fill and stock up everything, then go straight to a weighbridge to see what you may need to remove, or perhaps how much spare payload you will have coming back from Europe for duty frees:wink:.

most important ,do your own thing and learn by your mistakes ,and when you get it right you will be a fully fledged motorhomer ,im 39 years in and still doing my own thing ,learning ,have fun and enjoy your travels ,ps you will definatly meet more friends espesially on fun

Discover all the nice places within a 2 hour drive from you so you have several easy boltholes when you fancy a couple of nights away. We found an absolute beauty just shy of an hour from home that we love

If you overfill the loo don’t remove the cassette, swing the drain arm out and let it overflow into a bucket.
….or watch the lights and don’t let it overfill in the first place…. Yes, we’ve all been there

Have a list, infact have three lists:- 1) Pre-travel external safety checks, 2) Pre-travel internal safety checks 3) On tour supplies and consumables checks.

Jim ain't gonna like it Boo Boo but. Don't waste your money....The bubble has burst
EVs ? not practical, FLT in UK ? over subscribed, Parking? great (y) as long as you own a Heinkel, travelling in Europe? still opportunities but being restricted by the hour. Motorhome Dealers/Accessorizes/Services charges? The Sky's The Limit

Having said that given everything I have mentioned above, and there's more, go for it
{as long as you have deep pockets} things will never be the same again so enjoy it;)

Don't carry two bottles of wine in one hand just in case they 'Chinese' resulting in a breakage depositing contents on seat cushions.

Last Tuesday
Dont carry a bottle of fresh milk from the dairy vending machine on the front seat with a dustbin lorry coming the other way down a Devon lane!!

Still a slight whiff!!

Cheers James

Don’t buy from a dealer, and don’t buy new unless you have loadsamoney…..😆

If you like campsites with all the facilities, like to venture out and explore the local area for the day.....Buy a Caravan!
If you dont like campsites or being stuck in the same place for days on end, but simply tour of follow your nose, buy a motor home.

create a simple 'pre flight' check list to tick of things you need to do: at home before leaving (insurance renewals, central heating adjustments, food from the freezer, water proofs, cancel newspapers etc), what to do with the motorhome before setting off (fill with water, prime the gas, prime the toilet cassette) what to do when your back, (empty water, boiler, take all food and paper items out) and make a list of those items whilst you are away you think would be useful next time away or you needn't have bothered with (like making a spreadsheet!)
