Idiots guide to travelling to France.

I live in Brittany and cos dad in uk is very ill have made two 2week trips by ferry since July to uk in car and have just arrived back again in uk with my motorhome. Assuming fully vaccinated. Like above posts, the Tous Covis app is a given and the Wallet stores vaccination status and any tests from the q codes. This is required for access to most places. Regarding travel, in all though I found to enter both france and uk printing my vaccination certificate, attestation d'honeur, and handing them with passport (or test certificate and Passenger Locator on entering uk) saved waving my phone about mid air and I was thanked as the prints were appreciated by the check-in staff. The border controls just took passport ( and residency card in Fr). Both borders were helpful and welcoming. Enjoy your trip.
My sister just came back from France to UK after Le Mans and said that the border people were SO relieved that they had their paperwork in order as so many people arrive without the paper documents. I certainly would agree that it is best to have paper copies all ready when you go to the border. Not so easy if you are a tourist or in a caravan or motorhome as you don’t always have good Wi-Fi or certainly not printing facilities!

When we have the result of that on the Tuesday we can book our 2 days UK test (god knows how much Boris’s chums will charge us for that) and fill in the locator form. Lots to go wrong! 🤞
As I mentioned yesterday, I ordered my day2 tests on Friday ready for our return in about 3 weeks time. I received the booking number you need for the locator form almost immediately and the test are being delivered by DPD next Friday. So you can order them in advance to be sure they arrive in time. The cost was £28.00 Inc delivery both ways.

I don’t think so, but am happy to be corrected. I set both my parents up last night with the app and it was only the verif that would read the uk barcode. Verif, to verify you are vaccinated.
Just to clarify this, it is not the verif app that you need, but the plain TousAntiCovid app, as has been stated previously the verif app is for businesses to scan your codes, if the Tousanticovid app won't scan your NHS code check the expiry date, if it has expired it won't scan as I discovered when I tried to scan one that had been generated over a month previously. Every time you log on to the NHS app and check your vaccination codes, it generates a new code with a new expiry date, from the app I ordered a pdf copy emailed to me which I opened on a different device, I then scanned this from the Tousanticovid app and it was accepted without issue, I scanned both codes from the 1st and 2nd jabs but some say you only need the 2nd one, you can find them again in the wallet section of the app when they need to be scanned by the verif app at any venue that requires you to show them. As far as I can see there doesn't appear to be any expiry date once in the Tousanticovid app however I'm happy to be corrected on that if someone has found it. I hope that helps anyone that has been confused by the two anticovid apps.

Easiest trip to France in 50 years. 24th Aug arrived 6pm for the 8pm ferry Plymouth to Roscoff, showed our Covid passports and self declaration form and were unpacking our overnight bags in our cabin at 6.30pm! Rolled straight off at Roscoff just a quick passport check Uk and Covid passport check. What a pleasure to be back in Brittany where we know they welcome motorhomes and the people are so friendly and warm. It’s very easy to get here just follow the UK govt rules on their website. Also download the French app tousanticovid and scan in your Covid passport. It is seamless and takes minutes and allows you into restaurants etc. But getting back? Ah that’s a different matter. While the French have made it really easy to get here the UK govt have made it very difficult and expensive to get back. Again see the UK govt website. We have booked a Covid test on the Monday before our Wednesday sailing sailing on the 15th (£50 each). Not allowed to do it earlier as it must be within 3 days of sailing and the clinics are closed on Sunday. When we have the result of that on the Tuesday we can book our 2 days UK test (god knows how much Boris’s chums will charge us for that) and fill in the locator form. Lots to go wrong! 🤞I’ll let you know how it goes
That test seems expensive as it is a LateralFlow test not PCR. Previous posts suggest 20-30 Euros at Pharmacies

Do people have to isolate whilst they wait for their pcr test results after returning?
Also what happens if they do not have to isolate whilst they wait fortheir results and meet other people etc. Do those people that they meet now have to isolate too if the travellers’ results prove positive?

Best off keeping away from anyone until your results come back I'd say.

No. You do not have too, as long as you are fully vaccinated. 👍🏻

That was for a PCR test which is what we were told we would need to be sure it confirmed to the standard. I should have said 50 euros not pounds. But we haven’t done it yet that price was told to us by a French friend. Are there any reports of lateral flow tests being refused?

I think as the rate in the UK is so high it's likely that the returners from France are less risky than the general population

Hi. Just arrived in France via Le Shuttle. Before we travelled we downloaded the sworn declaration from the Government website for France. Filled it in and signed it. We then took a picture and uploaded onto Le Shuttle portal using our log in details. We had our NHS Covid vaccine proof uploaded also. No issues at all. We did not have to show anything during check in as everything was already on their system. Simple.

Can anybody please explain how to transfer the QR code from the NHS app to the TousantCovid one,on an I-phone, in words of one syllable ;) Got as far as activating the camera but can’t see a way to upload /download the code. Thanks

Camera square on the code, it’s automatic.

I’ve actually transferred from nhs app to both the french apps, one of them will only scan the second Covid code. you Need to have 2 devices iPhone/ iPad , get the code up on nhs app and scan the code with second device from the french app

Ninovan - I just wanted to see how it was done on 1 iphone, without printing anything off, or using another device to capture from another screen. It can be done;

Just downloaded the TousantCovid app, and verified (word puzzle!!),

Went to NHS app and requested a PDF version of the travel covid passport, which I saved the whole certificate off as a pdf and opted to place it in the iBooks location…. However as soon as you see the whole certificate (with two opposing tiny qr codes on) take a screen capture on your phone so it is saved as a photo.

Then, go to the french app, and click on ‘scan a QR code’ prompt., then from the top righthand command ‘import’ click on that, then ‘import from a photo’, then select the image of your certificate that you just photographed. Voila… it is accepted.

Came through Portsmouth with our two dogs and no problems at all. Ditto through Caen. We needn't have chucked the cheese...
Now in a delightful English owned Normandy campsite 'Sous Les Etoiles' for three days while we get our bearings and weather forecasts. There were no less than three English language films on French telly last night!

None that I know of. it is what is specified in all lists of requirements I have seen. its the day 2 test that is PCR. hopefully stays that way.

Try the WanderingbBird you tube channel. Lots of straightforward useful info on there.

Go to the government website - it's pretty straightforward.
To be fair you are travelling abroad to another country so whilst our government website might be useful you can only go by the legal requirements of the government of the country that you are visiting!

As has been said the Tunnel and Ferry companies will have the right advice as they don't want to be turning people away and creating bawdily for themselves

I just spotted this on my app which seems to confirm that the 'verif' app is the reader for venues

As a French resident I can confirm that tousanticovid verif is the app for business to scan your Pass Sanitaire. Easiest to print off & carry your Pass Sanitaire than to faff around with mobile phones!

Most of its been covered here so won't repeat.

Live in Spain and went back UK via France beginning of last month (why!!??)...And just heading back to Spain now.

I would agree getting into France is a lot easier and cheaper than getting back into the UK!

One thing I would mention is people paying £50 plus for tests to get into UK 72 hours before travel. Quite a few French Pharmacies do them and there's one in the middle of Calais that did mine for €25 with the results in 15 minutes and a certificate with a QR code that was good enough to get me on the Ferry.

By law you also need to have:
  • a breathalyser test kit
  • repatriation insurance
  • yellow vests and triangle for breakdowns
  • replacement bulbs
  • 'angles morts' stickers at side and back (if your van is over 3.5 Kg)
And you mustn't take any meat or dairy products or dog food.

I complied with all of the above except the dairy, meat and dog food one. And no one checked.

I bought breathalyser tests 🙃 now they are not a requirement after the French resisted it 🤣🤣

Believe it is a capped cost similar to Belgium 55 Euros for PCR test maximum, free in Holland and Denmark but rip-off Britain again.
I went back to the UK whilst France was still on the make it up as you go along "Amber Plus" list....

So €25 in France.........£165 in the UK for 2 postal stick it up your nose DIY kits for day 2 and day 8 tests AND another £85 for a get out of jail early day 5 test....Which came back neg on day 6 which is when they dropped the "Amber plus" designation anyway!!

Some people have gotten very rich out of this covid scam...
