Idiot driving on A491 in Stourbridge area.

We were driving southbound on the A491 on Friday evening heading for Stratford-on-Avon, we were on a short length of dual carriageway in the inside lane, stationary, at a set of red traffic lights, the road ahead was changing to single carriageway. We were third in a line of cars in front of us, we have an Autotrail Apache with an Aygo toad attached. There were three cars in the outside lane, the lights turned green and off we went. The first car in the outside lane slotted in behind the first car in my lane, I was around a car and a half length at most from the car in front of me when the second car slotted in to the gap between me and the car in front, the filter/outside lane had run out and we had diagonal white lines to indicate the lane was ending, the third car in the outside lane now tried to push in in front of me but I held my position, he was blazing away with his horn and even bumped into the side of our van. No damage done. I couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t filter in turn and let me go next. He followed me for 2 miles blowing his horn. Even though I have a Toad I don’t hang about and keep up with all the other traffic on the road. I was totally gobsmacked and have to admit to being a bit frightened, there was no way I was going to stop or let him past in case he did something stupid like slamming on the brakes in front of me, luckily the road remained single carriageway for 2-3 miles. He peeled off at a roundabout, still gesticulating at me through his windscreen. Do other MoHoers experience this kind of poor driving from other road users? I think he wanted to get past me because I was a in a big vehicle?

Cheers.

Yes, we had that on the York ring road last year. A yob in a chavved up Corsa. Weaving in and out trying to get past and then got past on a dual section. I was ready for the inevitable brake test and we blocked up the road as I just halted, put the hazard lights on and waited until he got bored and sped off using the usual self abuse hand signals out of the window. No idea what I did wrong as I simply followed the traffic. Sent the dashcam footage off to the police but never heard anything back.

Turning right at a 4 way junction in liverpool 3 days ago in the Mh, dickhead behind me decides to go past me on the right during the turn(single lane), as i turned he had to and bump over the kerbed island, bang crash wallop.. leaving his exhaust back box on the floor, and stopped almost blocking my path.

I had a little giggle and carried on
Karma is a real bitch……

I never go anywhere in the car or the van without a dash cam. I once witnessed a head-on collision on my way to work on a narrow country road when a guy in a brand new Volvo overtook me on a blind left hand bend doing about 70mph.
My dash cam captured the whole thing and saved it going to court. The Welsh Air Ambulance and the Shropshire one were both called out and it took over 90 minutes to cut both drivers out. It was almost a year before they both went back to work. The driver who caused the accident had a 'black box' in his car, he'd been doing 92mph less than a minute before the accident.
He'd only passed his test a few months earlier and he was 55 years old :Eeek:
There seems to be more bad driving now than ever. I spent 12 years as a lorry driver and loved driving. I don't get that much pleasure driving now, just too many idiots on the road:(

When we hired a PVC in New Zealand we were warned about merging like a zip at junctions. To my surprise it worked well if you followed the way the locals did I it. No pushing in or agro from other drivers.

Zip merging works really well

Yes first time I saw that I thought what a great idea 👍

As ChrisL post#11 we are never in so big a hurry that we need to compete for road space with boy racers, pratts trying to force their way in etc. However, there is some awful driving out there.

As a lifelong biker I have always driven as though everyone else is out to kill me.

Try to understand RustyRuss. The poor man felt humiliated. He would be thinking "I can't let a motorhome get in front of me .. at any cost." He would not have tried to squeeze in front of you if you had been driving an artic because they are the King of the Road and nobody messes with an artic, but you are just a motorhome and he treats you with the contempt that he has been taught by the likes of Jeremy Clarkson & Co. If you had been a tugger his humiliation would have been even greater.

That’s illegal attempting to cause a collision I hope you run a dash cam.
Just looking in to it now. Can’t believe I’m considering buying one, I have 40 years driving experience, with an average of around 25,000 miles a year in cars (mostly), white vans, 7 toners, minibuses and now a MoHo, towed hundreds of trailers, consider myself a competent and courteous driver and now having to try and protect myself from other drivers! Crazy!

I like the zip analogy above, that’s what i was trying to do but the idiot beside me wanted to jump a tooth!
