My website and email addresses cost me about £30 / yr. I only keep a holding page with basic details as I'm supposed to be retired.
You could have a home page with basic details and sub-pages with examples of you work and at least 5 email addresses all for 50p a week.
If you need my website supporters details let me know.

That’s fair enough.

I wouldn’t use any one using flyers or the like.
Well we all have to start somewhere that’s how I started 27 years ago putting flyers through letter boxes at 6 in the morning and then working all day and then doing more flyers till 9pm. And it certainly worked for me, got a very successful business and employ 9 men.

Good morning,,,

I’ve been out and about over the weekend, and again this morning, sorting lots out, so I haven’t been on here,,

Lots of useful advice, as usual from you lot,,and I just want to say thanks,,,

I have decided to stay with IAN YOUNG Bldg svcs,, very easy and I already have cards for that,, I have been to a company called signs Express, in Norwich this morning, they have measured the van, and are designing some magnetic signs ASAP,,, I have also placed an advert in the Norwich express, free paper, for a run of 8 weeks, and all looks good there!

I have insured and taxed the van this morning, online, and now I’m having a brew!!

I am unsure about joining any of those trade organisations, or work generators, purely because I’ve not heard anything positive about any of them! In fact quiet the opposite! The advert along with me running about, promoting myself to lots of smaller building companies will I hope bear fruit!

Although I am trying to stay positive, and busy, I am also still struggling a bit, mentally, to formulate a plan that gives me and end game, or final target!! And although I think it’s important to get back into the real world, I m finding it hard to think I might be letting go of what I can say has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my life,, working and travelling!! We shall see!!

I realise that I may still not be firing on all cylinders at the moment, but I’m remaining as positive as possible, and I know it won’t be long before I wake up with a clear vision of my future, and the motor kicks into life to propel me further along life’s motorway,,

I hope you are all well,, and enjoyed your weekend,, Chat later, xxxx

Oh, and here is the new member of the family!! image.jpg

Loving the name and hugs for you it takes a while to come to terms with loosing your mum.

Don’t worry too much now about the end game, that will reveal itself when the time is right

Great advice and a great choice of name, Ian, straightforward and easy for people to remember. Give yourself time to readjust to the changes in your life. xx

Hi rob, funny that, I have been told a thousand times a Facebook page is a must!!

I’d be happy with just the email mate, cheers! Xx
i probably get 20% of my work from recommendations on facebook and its the better work direct for house owners both from local pages and from the reccomends pages

i use rated people but not on a monthly plan i pay for a set amount of leads that lasts a year i dont use it much as i dont need a lot of wwork
people say its no good but when you buy a job youve bought a customer for repeat work
if your in a rural area a lot of plumbers swear by the parish magazines

We used to advertise in parish magazines too, years ago.

If like Ian you were setting up in business from scratch, which advertising medium would you choose for immediate results?

As I say to any one who asks, word of mouth always turns out the best ?
Word of mouth or knocking on doors is best way to find work.GOOD LUCK IAN..BUSBY.

if i might be allowed to add to this , seeing as it looks hes going down this route, i dont use facebook but julie does , and she seems to what is happening roundabout, is it not worthwhile ianthebuilder just getting on it and see if anyone around wants something doing, not paying to advertise but just get known aroundabout, similer to being on here but more concentrated.

Right I’m struggling with the site! I can’t see a thank you button, or a smiley face? Help

I’m on an iPhone!

Would you open the door to a builder looking for work ?

Maybe 20 years ago, but not now
When I said knocking on doors I did not mean it literally,,I meant the places where you socialise with people. When I was in Haulage Business I picked up quite a bit of business up in different pubs,,by joining organisations and clubs etc etc.Got nothing advertising..Good service gets more worm.BUSBY.

Nowadays they’d call that networking

Though touting for business in pubs may be classed as pimping

Have a look on Facebook Marketplace - lots of builders on there. People just seem to post pictures of their work, and if someone is searching they can specify a distance, so you would get local work. It’s free, and all you need is a Facebook account in order to put a listing up. One bloke I’ve just found has a photo of his business card! You have nothing to lose as far as I can see!
