I like Hymers but €270k is perhaps a bit too much

I was shocked to the point of disbelief when someone told me how much they were paying for a fairly ordinary Hymer, so I decided to look and found this, tbf it does look expensive but it doesnt seem long ago that €100k bought you a very well specced one.

I actually quite like the red interior, it looks decent quality as well but still think the whole thing is far too expensive for what it is.

What it is though is pretty unique and that will be a lump of what you are paying for, nicely done 👍 like it 👎

Palmo are one of those typical "upmarket" vehicle customising companies who think that the more vulgar you make something the more desirable it is and the more someone will pay for it!

I find cleaning the van quite therapeutic ;)

Is the 2.3 Merc F&D petrol ?

I paid £4.200 for my first 3 bed house in Chingford London in 1971 sold three years ago for just over £1,000,000, the world has gone mad.

That is interesting, my parents paid £5000 for a new house near Southampton in 1965 and that is worth about £500K now, shows how crazy London is.

To be honest I am surprised at the price of Hymers new, I have had two Hymers in the past, damned good kit, paid £34K for a seven year old B644 in 2010.

I see new B classes are north of £150K, I am not a poor man but I don't see me stretching to £150K for a new MH.

OK I though 2.3 was petrol 2.4 was diesel (y)
Previous model Martin, when they went from 307 to 308 it was a new diesel engine, about 1988? I have a feeling they effectively dropped the petrol at the same time but you could have the 5 cylinder 2.9 non turbo 310. The last 2 digits being horsepower - how the market has changed

OK I was thinking of our old 1980 123 series that was 2.4 diesel, the 5 cylinder was 3 litre then.

A lovely engine, my first Hymer had that engine, I reckon with oil and water in sufficient quantities the engine would go on forever.

Cannot say the same for the gearbox, lost all gears apart from 4th, and changed the box but by Christ that gearbox was heavy.

I had it in a SWB Sprinter van that I drove empty most of the time, if you drove it like a hooligan it was great as it had the ABD "auto braking differential" that stopped the inside wheel spinning out when it picked it up around corners

The interior reminds me of a cheap roadside diner!

Palmo were one of the companies I looked at back in 2010, their prices were good and stated they were able to do the paperwork to export to Britain. They may be out there with some of their offerings now but most likely know the market.
