I knew there was a reason I dont use Ferries

Who would you claim from, insurance wise if yours was to get squished..?

Most ferry company`s have a get out clause for any such incident..:(
Don't think yours covers you & the ferries have a get out clause?

Definitely not, I've seen lorries unchained umpteen times
So Have I. in summer rarely see any chained down-
On certain routes & where rough weather is expected/normal they should be chained in multiple places on both sides. Having stuff like that go over could even cause such an imbalance that the ferry could be at risk?

Just leaving the Bay of Biscay on the Pont Aven heading for Plymouth, very calm crossing last night but loading took ages. Looks like it was fully booked as far as vehicles were concerned as we were one of the last ones on and there was very little space left on the vehicle decks.

I did regular trips from Immingham to Zeebrugge and I was transporting dangerous goods.
Rarely did they chain down as they said, if there are problems, the sides of the ship are weakened deliberately and the vehicle is jettisoned

My former in-laws had their Saab written off by a truck on a rough crossing.

I've often laid awake at night on rough crossings knowing how close other vans are to mine
Hi.
Been kept awake by knowing how close other units are to YOURS??!! DOH!!.I have "Lain awake!!" to the sound and judder of MONSTROUS waves, trying to bash the sharp end in and send us all down to Davy Jones locker in the bay of biscuits . When we docked at Portsmouth,i measured the..SCOW!! and it was two yards shorter than when we left Spain.

I'd guess that there is a greater risk of damage to a vehicle actually driving through France to Spain than going by ferry.....

gosh!, all this mentioning of strapping on and lashing, gets one quite excited.........

On my first trip, we were alongside a "Loch" boat in Newark (NJ)
She also had a rough crossing, The Wharfies were unloading E Type Jags using just a single wire strop around the middle of the cars. Something had broken loose and cleaned up a whole deck of them.

Poetic licence....... Descibing the Ferry??? as a "Scow". A flat bottomed craft that is a sort of waterborne wheel barrow.(y)(y);)
