I have just found the one item you should NEVER leave home without!

We had a new McDonalds drive-through open a few miles from us recently-now we see litter every day along the nearby lane where we walk our dog-so lazy. I pick bits up where its safe- Like the other contributor I also pick up dog poos if I see one near where my dog has done one-doest use any more bags, and makes the verges a little nicer.

We sometimes pick up the odd item of rubbish but we haven’t gone to the lengths other Funsters have.....but we will! Have already been on eBay and ordered our litter-picker! Best way too influence others is to lead by example

Now there's an idea ... you could use it to pull them down to ground level by their nose to pick up their OWN litter! 😄

Whilst on one of our walks this week (Bath Skyline, 6.5 miles, lovely even in winter), we passed a couple and the lady had a litter picker and bag, we were well impressed.
A little later on the same walk while enjoying the view we watched a large dog do its business close by; the owner was a way off and apparently hadn't noticed so when she reached us we told her and she did pick it up saying she "always watches her dog but had missed it this time". we wondered how many other times she'd "missed it"?
During Lockdown 1 we were appalled at the dog droppings every time we went for a walk. It's been a lot better since the weather turned bad, presumeably because the lazy owners are staying home, however the amount of litter everywhere is a disgrace.

I've been known to litter pick when stopping for a lunch break - and when people ask I tell them why.

As a dog owner I had a thought that if we all picked up one additional (not our own dogs) pile of mess what difference it would make... but I realise that maybe a step too far for some. I can honestly say that I have picked up "extra" on a Spanish campsite when some inconsiderate owner let their dog drop its load right in front of some friends pitch (non dog owners).

Litter picker is a good idea though....
I’m always doing this, I have a big german shepherd who has dry food delicate lady poos easy to pick up, but I get so wound up at dog owners who leave their dog poo behind them , on beaches, woodland walks, near play areas, pavements, it takes no time to pick it up and dump it somewhere( not leave it in the bag on the floor thats kind of worse, ) , so I pick theirs up too , truthfully thinking I’d hate someone to think I’d just left it there, of course dogs have accidents and they are really rubbish at remembering to take poo bags out, so stick a bag in your phone case, you’ve always got that with you!

Thanks for posting this Colboy, acting responsibly and decently to our fellow travellers, as littering affects all life on this amazing planet, has got to be number one on our list, no matter what we are doing or where we are going.

We are over 20 miles from the closest outlet of the well known chains of fast food outlets and still get their wrappers blowing around here.

Perhaps they should consider making the packaging bio-degradable........

Surfers Against Sewage encourage ‘return to sender’ with beach litter, so coke bottles to Coca Cola etc. I gather it has a disproportionate effect on their awareness of the problem. I guess a bag of used McDonalds wrappers spread across the restaurant counter might focus some minds to address customers behaviours.

Totally amazed by the length of the queues of cars for Macdonalds and KFC yesterday. Having eaten the »meals » the wrappings are then discarded from the moving cars. To me they are TOTAL DROSS! Can’t even make a sandwich or cook a proper meal !
Majority of litter is from take a ways,,,First lockdown when MacDonalds and KFC were closed there was hardly any litter.BUSBY.

Last night I was watching YouTube vanlife, on there were a very nice young English couple in their thirties who have a property in Spain and spend most of their time wild camping (subject to lockdowns) in Spain and Europe. It doesn’t matter how wild they camp they always find litter, of course not left by other motorhomers!. The very first thing they do is get out their litter picker and pick up all the rubbish around the area bag it and dispose of it when convenient. I was humbled and felt a little ashamed after watching them do what they did. I have just ordered a “litter picker” and will without doubt carry it on EVERY journey. At a cost of around £5 it’s nothing. I feel that all of us should carry one because if we leave it to others to pick up rubbish , we MH’s will get the blame and loose all those lovely parking spaces.
Rant over!

“litter picker” Colyboy
Thats not a rant, You are a hero and an inspiration to us all. I too shall get a picker, It's much safer than using your fingers and post Covid a necessity. Thank you may have saved my life. Bruce

Me too! I was inspired by colyboy's post to go to our local hardware store and buy a litter picker. It only cost the equivalent of 6 pounds and I will keep it in the motorhome. I might even get a second one to use in the garden for picking up dry magnolia leaves from the path.

Think it would be better if litter was not let in the first place. Some really lazy dirty bastards out there.

We do have a couple of litter pickers, never previously taken them.

I did once many moons ago pick up a fag packet a guy just threw on the floor in front of him. Made sure he saw me as i pick it up and said "I'll put it in the bin for you", he was stunned for words. Twat.
I picked up a packet thrown out of a car onto our front lawn, tapped on his then closed window and as he opened it to see what I wanted threw it into his car with the words "your's I believe"! He drove off and never parked there again LOL

I litter pick regularly, usually several times a week, at home, as a mamber of a volunteer group and alone. Apart from anything else it is good exercise (and was allowed as exercise during lockdown).
Many places have volunteer groups (often organised using Facebook) is anyone is interested.

May I play devil's advocate. :(

The first thing I ever used to do when stopping off in a layby for a break was to don rubber gloves, take black bin bag and pick up loads of rubbish... on the premise that every little bit helps. (I left the suspicious looking plastic bottles of yellow water lorry drivers left. :()

I don't do it now as I realise that it is how other carsl/lorries in the layby realise I am a lone traveller.. Have had TOO many scary episodes of sitting in the van reading, with my cuppa and a man just walking in through the door, or peering in with his nose pressed against the window. There are many weirdos out there and I could write a book. Thank God for Terry and Carol to name just two funsters I have phoned in the past to give details where I am in case 'I disappear'. . or car registrations if I can see them.. Not nice people.
Blinking heck Movan I'm missing a trick I have met so many weirdo's I don't need to park in layby's I had to work with most of them

As I now carry poo bags around in every pocket, I have found they make good picker ups for all the discarded face masks that I find lying around.
I also pick up other dog poo if on the pavement or anywhere else anyone could step on it.
I am getting through a lot of bags!
