I have a solution for good Mobile Data (300G) whilst in Spain (then any zone 1 country)

Thanks for the suggestions folks, its given me a bit more to chew on whilst trying to get to the bottom of this. More investigation required methinks.

Currently using my Tiekom SIM (from Camino) in La Bouille, Seine-Maritime, France and it's working great. Full signal and streaming with no buffering. Very happy :) Using it with TPLink router.

Factory reset the tv, firestick and mifi. I've only just discovered my android phone will stream the same progs without buffering using the same mifi.
I had a similar problem with my 3 and Huawei B535 when we went to Jim’s, we had the best signal,
40mbps but the Firestick wouldn’t work but would using my phone hotspot, also on 3.
Did all the resetting stuff on everything and didn’t help. The only thing I can thinks its a problem with what channel the router locks onto.
Moved to another area and all working again.

You should be able to go into your router settings and change the channel manually, usually channel selection is set at automatic as a default, but you should be able to select a channel manually to see if that improves the performance.

I could only change to best Chanel on the Huawei which it was on.

Currently using my Tiekom (Camino) SIM and a TPLink in the tunnel and it's streaming for fun!! Loving it :)

Just had the reply below from Camino…what a great deal.

I’d better start streaming in 4K to use up the March 300gb in the next seven days 😉

“Hello Martin,

I have just asked to cancel the Service of the sim card 1.

You will get 300GB with your sim card in March and data will renew the 1st of April with 300Gb again.

Best regards
Camino”

Does the plan run from the day that Camino activates it until the end of the same month or, does it start from the activation day for 30 days?

It resets at the start of each month. If you join mid month, you get charged pro-rata for the days used up until the 1st of the next month. Not quite sure whether this is just a daily rate or whether it also takes into account the amount of data used as well.

Perfect - thanks !

It's calculated as a daily rate :)

I checked with Camino - regardless of the day of the month you active your sim, in first month starts you get the full 300gb.

Encantador

There is one totally perfect solution that works every time…

Turn off the telly and go for a walk or read a book or take some photos.

Works for me 100% of the time and saves all that time and effort and frustration worrying, configuring, resetting and failing

😀

🤦‍♂️ We have been through this already, see post #33

I appreciate not everyone wants or ‘needs’ high volume data, but there is a significant proportion of Funsters who, when enjoying their MH travels, also enjoy decent internet access. This offer is for them…

Some of us need to work while we're away! Changing the view from the office is great for the work/life balance but it takes some planning if you need a lot stable data. It's not always a case of reading a book or going for a walk! :)

Hi …… I think I saw the answer to this but can’t find it now. Will they post to uk and can it be activated here or will it need to be done in the EU ?

Edit* think I’ve found the answer now

Kind regards

Chris

Hello Chris

It’s a yes and a yes. Postage to anywhere inc UK and it can be activated anywhere in Zone 1 inc UK.

Harvey

One thing to bear in mind for those who think even 3/400Gb might not be enough, my understanding is you have to have extra SIM cards with you, or be able to receive them while in Europe.

A sim card can be re-loaded on 1st of the month, but not before, so if you run out mid month, you will need to already have another SIM card with you, or be somewhere where you can receive one in the post, this can then be activated by contacting Camino, the first SIM card is then cancelled and cannot be used again.

The above is of course only for those that cannot be without the service, if you can do without for however many days are left in the month, you can just wait until the sim is re-loaded on 1st.

If this is correct it may well be worth taking more SIM cards with you than you think you might need.

Has anybody used the French provider HIPPOCKET?

https://hippocketwifi.com/en/long-term-pocket-wifi/

For modest users like me who prefer a small, pocket MIFI similar to HUAWEI this scheme offers a rental MiFi with rates tailored a bit more to travel duration and use. We only need a tether facility to a laptop and phone to do a few emails and calls, and a bit of searching for places to stay. I am with Three but their charges are annual and a tad exorbitant as we only use a MIFI for a couple of months travelling in Europe. 120 Euros for 3 months small use?

Anybody had experience of HIPPOCKET please?

Better off with the OP's deal IMV.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about - I just want a large amount of data per month for streaming TV whilst in France, mainly for the Vendée where our static caravan is sited. Are you suggesting it's not that good ? If so, is there a better alternative that I can get set up and working within the next five weeks while I am in France?
We used Free data sims for 3 months in France last year and my hubby streamed Netflix for several hours every night without any problems (near to Limoges). I’m sure it will be fine, and if not it’s easy enough to cancel.

If my Tesco sim falls through I will go with this. Quick question, has anyone living outside of Spain managed to set up payment with a credit card? I would want to use my Halifax Clarity.

I'm currently using a Tesco mobile unlimited sim card, i can use as much as i need in Europe for a maximum two months in every four, i have been in France for 1 week so far and have used 66.4 GB, i'm near Mont St Michel and am getting speeds of 41.9 Mbps down and 9.46 up so it's not throttled either. I'm going to be away around 2.5 months on this trip so will see how strict they are on the two months but maybe if you're using it in the UK as well they'll be okay with it, we'll see.

Edit: I'm not saying the deal you got isn't a good one, obviously if you're going to be away longer than two months it is a good solution.
Took the plunge on Tesco Mobile earlier. Unlimited data for £17.50/m and still no roaming charges in most of EU.
I'll apologise now because it will probably cause Tesco to start roaming charges in anger. Went full time the week before Covid lockdowns started 2 years ago, fitted a diesel heater the week before the fuel shortages the other month so my track record speaks for itself :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Just had an interesting exchange with Tesco mobile advisor. He says that the Home from Home (HFH) service you mention is good for motorhome holidays. But he also said:

Where you are found to be in one our HFH destinations and HFH Usage exceeds 2 months during this monitoring period (in comparison to being in the UK or elsewhere), you will have exceeded our fair usage policy.
You will be informed that you have exceeded the fair usage policy by text message and from the receipt of this message, you will have two weeks to reduce your HFH Usage.

If after 2 weeks your HFH Usage has not been reduced then we will apply a data surcharge for continued HFH Usage of 0.35p/MB. When your HFH Usage pattern changes to under 2 months in a rolling 4 month period, we will remove the surcharge. You will receive a message from us to let you know when surcharges are being applied and removed.

So it's not all plain sailing but seems that the deal should be OK for moderate data users. Also saves having to use a VPN etc.

Will it? You’ll still be connecting via an overseas service provider, so U.K. based streaming services etc. that operate geographic restrictions will know that you are not local.

You don't need a vpn, I'm in Spain at the moment using a Tesco mobile unlimited sim and I can stream all uk tv services without a vpn.

That’s interesting. Is it just Tesco that happens with?
