since 2006 ( I think ! )
Win 10, all notifications off
Apart from the notification sound there is no other indication what is going on
It is not regular but random............

I have tried stopping it for months, going so far as to stopping each running app one at a time ( apart from the sounddriver ) and it is STILL going 'swoink' at me every few minutes

Any ideas ?

Jaws All joking aside I had an annoying noise on my system, like someone blowing on a mike, it turned out to be my destop speaker, not sure if the built in amp or the volume pot was the culprit. bought a new set in the end.

Is anything connected to it by a USB cable? If there is it might be worth disconnecting it and see if the sound comes back.

"Sounds" like a USB device connecting/disconnecting notification, have it on my machine but seems to have (almost) stopped when I stopped Windows automatically stopping idle USB devices. Mines W11, not sure if it's the same on W10.

Might it be a keyboard problem ? An iffy key trying to do something ?
Agree unusual but think I would try another keyboard if you have one or maybe even unplug it and try using machine for a short while with just the mouse. But then, just thought, could the mouse be the culprit ?
Showing my hardware background here but feel worth trying ….

You could just work your way through all the system sounds until you find a match and then select None ...

Already done that one..thought it was gonna be an easy fix, but the sound does not correspond to any of the alerts****

I did unplug every thing and it made no odds.. Since it started I have fitted a new keyboard ( I wear out the letters quite a lot ! )

I think you have give4n me a darned good clue
As it is not a standard sound, it is proly being generated by a program other than Win
I have gone through closing any background progs before, but maybe it is staring me in the face.. i.e. Could it be something Chrome is generating ?
I will experiment tomorrow :-)

Not over heating.. The noise is what you would expect when mail delivered ( for instance )
Def some sort of notification, but notification of what I do not know
Been quiet all morning but had three of four events in the last couple of minutes

Sooooooooooooo.
Closed the browser and it still happens
Watched memory usage and CPU usage
When the noise happened there was a 2% rise in memory usage and a 6% rise in CPU usage
BUT.. after sitting watching all the apps usage NOTHING changed.. this is driving me nuts !!!!

Try disconnecting from the network, if the beep is coming from something that is talking to the internet or another thing connected to your network, it might popup an error message, of course you may also get other errors unrelated to your beep.

Linked In ?
WhatsApp?
One of your many email accounts, one reserved for junk mail ?

EBay - Something you looked at months ago
Amazon

Switch off the WiFi on the PC for a while and see if continues.
That will tell you if its an external or internal notification.

It's jealous of your new weather station and wants renewing? 😄

Perhaps meanders might know, he's good at this sound stuff? 🤔

John, hope you get sorted.......... but in the meantime DON'T watch BBC1 at 9pm tonight.

😱😨
I wonder, how many like me, have just turn on the TV guide on their telly and all it says in the slot is, No Information! 😡

Hi John. Sorry hadn't seen this until tagged in. Is this a laptop? If so, and it started after you changed the keyboard, did you fit a manufactures original?

I've not read the whole thread so apologies if all this has been covered, or I am 'teaching my grandmother'!
Can you post make, and model of equipment please? HP, and Dell for example have a lot of their own alerts in addition to those in Windows. I suspect other's will have the same.
Have you loaded Event Viewer? (Hit windows key and type 'event viewer; to load.) You may have to right click and select run as administrator depending on how you sign-on is configured. The Summary of Admin events will show events in the last hour that might tie it down. You can drill down from there. Look under Error, Warning and the other headings as any may trigger an alert.

It is an HP desktop Robin

Yup, sat watching event log for ages and never seen one instance logged

No, mute the sound and it is muted too

John. Have you checked and changed the motherboard battery? It's usually a CR2032. Never had it on an HP. but my lighting desk that has an ATX board in it was chirping to tell me that the battery was low. Changed the battery, reset the BIOS setting and all has been was well since. If doing it, it's worth going into the Bios first and photographing all the settings screens to ensure you reset it as it was.
