I felt so proud of my Van...and then this happened

What you need is my 30 year old little caravan parked next to you….that would really make you value your rapido lol
Been there done that..and actually think sometimes was my best ever. (y)
Talking to a German guy last night has a 30 yo merc..5 ton. Had it since the was 25... Vario style....was a dream.

Ha ha..not me..I'll sleep anywhere..but sometimes my navigator
Is that Garmin or Tomtom? I didn't realise they needed to be level.:mad:

Our Peugeot always sits nose down, so needs ramps even on level pitches. But not too level otherwise the shower will not drain, thank you Swift!

Stay proud!

They're probably sat in that beast, working out how they can afford to start the engine and move somewhere?

Whilst wishing that they had a nice, compact van, like the one that parked behind them.

Tombola How you feel , You think how they feel after spending all that and a 12mtr Quad slide US RV parks next to them :)
There's quite often a bit of top trumps going on, but there are also plenty who buy something that meets their requirements but happens to be big. it also works the other way with VW snobbery, I know which is most often disappointed 😉

Then there are some people (meaning me) that’s always looking at other vans and not realising just how good the van they already have is (me again)
Although I do aspire to own a RWD 🤔🤔

Never really wanted another motorhome, we met at couple in Melrose they were on the way to Italy in there Concorde, going back to the factory for the 3rd time, Apparently this visit was to have the whole rear panel removed and reseated, apparently it had been fitted without any sealant.
That's a poor bit of quality control for a truck with that price tag.

There's obviously room on some campsites.

We have a Concorde and love it... horses for courses in my view!

It depends on your preferred mode of travel. If you don't want to stay on sites, go wilding into very cold climates, be self-sufficient in terms of power, etc they take a lot of beating.
As long as you have a SMART to tow behind it would be superb. Without marooned on sites.

That Concorde is fantastic for its job.. We bought a pre loved Charisma a while back as we could get two motorcycles in its garage. At shows we could seat up to 12 people. Merc powered and 20 is to the gallon. We had a 7.5 tonne license so all was good. But that medical loomed on the horizon so we downsized to a MLI640 Hymer and a bespoke trailer. To my supprise I passed the medical, but no regrets. Now we can seat 4 or slouch two. The two motorcycles are now one with a DIY sidecar as madam kept falling over when stopped and breaking things. To coin that is a small extract from our motorhome "journey" that started in 1972 with a Dormobile. Enjoy it all. We are all travellers and the final destination is the same for us all. Clive

I’d take the Rapido every time. The other thing looks more like a bus to me or an American RV. Really suitable for Cornwall (NOT) and really good mpg (NOT). Honestly, when they get that big what’s the point?

I think they’re both lovely vans.
Where abouts are you Tombola ? It looks a nice aire.
Anyway to take your inadequacy feelings away, imagine owning this.
The ‘base vehicle’ if you can call it that is a Renault Clio. (Don’t think it’s moved for a while)

My satnav has sent me down some goat tracks in my van and it was very stressful, lord knows what stress levels could be achieved in a van that size🥴

We have had 3 previous Mercedes Motorhomes, 3 year old, a 17 month old and a brand new one. Great when they work. Cost a fortune to run and can be utterly unreliable and let down by disgraceful Mercedes Dealer network.

I stole our last motorhome, well nicked it as they say in the trade. The previous owner had it stuck in Spain and I paid them half what they paid for it to get the problem off their hands. Very proud of our now 22 year old Fiat Hymer. Starts every time. Which is more than could be said of any of the Mercedes. All of which had to be recovered at least once.

Only downsides. Not the most dynamic thing to drive and no Cab A/C. And I have never got stuck in the snow. Which is why I always opted for the RWD Mercedes, two of which were twin real wheels.
We have a new, 8 months old Hymer BMCT 600 Whiteline. Had Mercedes’ assist out twice now, ran out of use in the M25 (when range was reported as 119 miles in the dash) and up France when the dash went completely blank. Both fixed of course, but make you think a bit about Mercs. Having said that it is fully warranted and will have Mercedes’ assist for life so not too bothered. Drives like a dream on a 9 speed automatic 170 bhp I think and currently getting 26.4 mph out of it. Very few minor issue with the Hymer habitation pod so far.

Water..ehu..dump... club on static part of the site but we didn't check if we could go in...25 euros
Am at Hubert lathom Aire now at Sangatte free and watching the migrants setting off in boats while the helicopter buzzes around. Has toilets and an outside dodgy shower.
There is actually a cheeky fresh water tap just 20yds round the corner that no one seems to know about.

The point being 'the luxury of space' 350L Fresh, 300L black (not filling or tipping constantly) Queen sized bed, full shower, Washer and drier if needed etc etc. Somebody mentioned Cornwall? We wouldn't bother as they don't like Grockles/Tourists, but they LOVE your money, there just not getting a penny off me.

Doesn't appeal to me one bit. It looks like the Heathrow Express and it'd be a liability and totally impractical for my choice of wanderings.
As you say it is down to what you are using it for, i agree for general European summer travel a smaller van is more practical, if I decided to do much longer trips including winter in a bigger country eg the states i would be tempted for something larger, money no object of course.
