Hello does anyone know if it’s acceptable ( by Hymer) to walk on the roof?
I see so many Motorhome with ladders on the back!

Since 2015, still learning
Hopefully someone with a hyper will be along to help. Being on the roof seems quite common but never been on mine. Think I’d be on all fours

Absolute beginners.
Stay to outside area. Have a look inside where the support walls are bathroom etc. Use crawling boards on an old towel, that'll make it non slip. If you have to use a ladder to access the roof put some softening on the stiles where it touches the roof sides. Tell someone your on the roof, just in case.
Mike.

not long enough
Some of the fittings just can’t be accessed without going on or you would need a complex platform

I am sure they must do when being built 👍

ours is 16 years old, 11 in our ownership, I have been up there twice but vowed never again I don’t like heights, but it withstood my 18 st and has had similar sized people up there for cleaning and repairs , so in conclusion yes 👍

At least for the older ones 🤔🤣

Sorry no help really 🙄

On 4th van so not a total newbie....
We have a 780 and I am sure I have seen in the handbook somewhere it is safe, having said that I have not been onto ours as there is so little roof space left to stand on.

I walk on the roof of my 22reg BMC600, I do like to keep everything clean, but it does have the optional extra layer of fibreglass, the hail protection or whatever they call it

Hi

I have a BMLi 880 - At time of purchase I enquired about a ladder for access (mainly for cleaning and maintenance) but was told by Travelworld that this was not an option for this model. I enquired about walking on the roof and was informed that this is not an issue, subject of course to adequate safety precautions. I regularly get onto my roof (OCD concerning cleaning and once I know there is something on there I have to get on and clean it off.) Using ladders resting on the outside is not very safe and has the potential to damage the paintwork. I am fortunate in that I am able to squeeze through the skylight above the bed which makes roof access quite safe easy.

On and off for many years.
My daughter used to sunbathe on ours.

We have a platform tower for high level cleaning - but as we no longer have the van .......

Walking on the roof of a Hymer is fine.
But be aware they are VERY slippery, especially when wet.
Ideally you need proper yacht deck shoes (with the little hexagon spikes)
I tend to stay on all fours when on the roof.

You also need to be selective about where you put the ladder.
Get some pipe insulation to put on the area in contact with the side of the van

Ideally get a fruit picking ladder
Something like this one or this one
