hymer wheels

Quite aside from the issue you guys are having they can cause problems with braking systems , are highly nickable , and increase your insurance loading .

I think that was true years ago, but is a bit out of date now. They're so common now that they are only really nickable if they are particularly flash ones that appeal to the boy racers, I think we can safely say that won't apply to anything on a motorhome! Insurance loading - if they are standard fit, or a manufacturer's option, then no effect. Otherwise depends on the insurance company, most will ignore it. My car has alloys that were a £1600 option over the standard alloys (no, I didn't buy it new, I'm not that daft!) - does nothing to the insurance as they were a factory option.

Braking problems? I don't see why - if anything most styles of alloy would let a lot more cooling air to the brakes than my steel wheels + trims.

My steel spare was getting pretty rusty under the van - the steel wheels on the van will want attention at some point as well. The paint finish on steel wheels never seems to be great, hidden by the trims on most I suppose, if they are full size trims.

If anyone knows where I can get some flaking alloys that will fit my2004 hymer I’ll have them at a good price.

I had a similar experience from Lexus - they find it easier to replace the UK ones

toyota/lexus had a massive issue with their alloy wheel supplier about 12 years ago, i used to deliver the replacements and collect the bad ones from dealers returning them back to the toyota warehouse in lutterworth by the artic trailerful. They just threw the bad ones into recycling skips at the warehouse, i worked daily on that contract for nearly 2 years and it would seem that alloy wheel manufacturers have still got issues today

Yeah that's probably mostly true , i've never been a fan of alloys and wouldn't have them on any vehicle i owned so i could easily be outta date , however i can see the braking issue still standing . Alloy wheels not being as strong as steel tend to buckle easier , this can upset the sensors , and cause the abs system to fault , illuminating the warning light . I seem to recall there was also an mot issue with alloys , though as i said never having them i never kept up with it and really can't remember the full story .

From what i've read here and the problems you guys seem to be having , i'm still not missing anything .

I know that it make absolutely no economic sense but am I the only person reading this who really wants to pay hundreds and hundreds of Pounds to replace perfectly good steel wheels with sexy alloy ones? I don't wear my wife's knickers, I have no strange sexual fantasies (apart from the twin blonds of course) but..............I really want alloy wheels! Help! I don't care if the lacquer will peel off. I just want them!
Totally agree but don't right off the nickers
