Hymer
After breaking down in our beloved Hymer at the weekend, the garage have rung to say she needs a new engine and they can't source one due to her age (1990.) Anyone have any ideas where we could source one? She's a B644 A-class Fiat model, 2.5 L. The van is generally in good nick and has been well looked after, but due to her age things naturally reach the end of their useful live. Such as the engine  Any help/advice/emotional support much appreciated!

The shells may have spun , damaging the block. (but hopefully not)
If so I have a good block and crank case thay can have if thay pay the £20 pounds
And lots of engine parts
And another crank is less than £200 eBay it Poland but I get loads of used parts from thare
For fiats
But ther not members of this forum if thay were thay could have them free of charge

I think the OP’s biggest current problem is the people looking at it are a motorhome service place, get it moved 👍 they will almost certainly not be interested in rebuilding engines

Hopefully it can be moved fairly easily 👍
That what I was thinking find a back street polish mechanic
Ther really good most of them

Its amasing how much great help & advice is given for free for anyone that needs it on this Forum, which is why we all joined up many years back, best £20 we ever spent.
I hope Big Bertha joins up tonight, that Hymer is a classic and is well worth keeping on the road, it will get the respect it is due on every campsite/rally no doubt.
Plus I/We would love to know what happens next, and who you managed to find to do the exchange engine re-fit or even better re-build.
Good luck, best wishes.

How about the Fiat owners Club. They may have a handle on bits or old analogue mechanics.
There is also an 08000 number for Fiat that goes straight through to a helpline in Milan. Very, very nice and helpful people.
Very interesting.
Would you have the full number for Fiat Milan please?
Thanks.

When you originally broke down did the engine go with a bang or just fizzle to a stop. If it went with a bang there may well be catastrophic damage to the engine internals that mean it is beyond a rebuild

Some information about the “breakdown “ may help with ideas, and provide some insight into possible engine issues. Unless it’s been run with zero oil in it, had no oil pressure at all, or the block damage due to insufficient coolant, I can’t see why it can’t be repaired.

It always disappointing when thay disappear in to cyber space.
There's a good block and cylinder head siting in my garage the crank is no good it's free to a member in nead of it.
All thay have to do is pick it up or pay the carege

I doubt any motorhome service centre have the skills or knowledge to do anything with an engine other than top it up with oil and change filters.

I thought if any of the bearings went, it meant you had bits of (very hard) bearing material in the oil, which basically becomes a grinding paste. Every moving part that touches the oil has to be checked and potentially replaced. Total rebuild required, or swap with a recon. Either way, I'd want a warranty on the engine and the work.
