Hi 👋
New here. Looks like a goldmine of knowledge and experience. 💪

I’m in the process of scoping out upgrades from a converted AA van… to some thing more like a Roller 746, used…
I’d welcome any general advice, and if anyone’s got anything specific to say about the 746, particularly ones that are 6-10 years old, I’d be really grateful.

I’m a bit concerned about payload and how that all works - so if anyone could link to an explainer for the newbs, that’d be fab.

Thanks a lot! 😀

Hi there and welcome.

The 746 is a 6 berth with overcab . We had a 2008 CI Carioca 746 which is basically the same van. It was on a heavy chassis and max weight was 4250kgs .
IMHO you will be pushed for much payload at all if the 746 is plated at 3500 kgs.

Hi, welcome to the Fun and congrats on making your first post here (y)

If you follow the Payload link that we auto placed into your first post above, you'll understand payload a little better. Finding how much you do have, or the van you are buying has, can be a bit of a palaver. Come right back with any questions (y)

Yeah looks like this is about right. Disappointing- probably a deal breaker on a really nice MH we e seen.

The only real way of checking is asking the dealer to take it to weigh bridge and get a certificate of total weight and each individual axle.
Not all are happy to do that.

The other option if you have a C1 license is to get it up plated

I do have a C1. How does updating work exactly? Is it just the equivalent of asking nicely.. 😉 or does it require mechanical work?

It depends on a number of mechanical aspects of the van plus a recognised motor engineer to provide the supporting documentation.
Have a look on the Van Weight Engineering web site( that who I used ) but the other. Popular but more expensive one is SVtech

It’s likely to be paper exercise to 3650 or 3850 depending upon the chassis, after that you are likely to need to make changes like air assist suspension to the rear and higher rated tyres.

Thank you. According to the seller and the DVLA vehicle check, the ‘revenue’ weight is already 3650. Don’t think this means it’s already been done? Would I be safe to assume the max weight for this vehicle is 3650 - giving me 150kg extra payload above what I was expecting?

Cheers 👍

It certainly looks like it is already 3650kgs

I would take it as 3650kgs but there should be a plate to that affect on the van
