How useless is your solar at the moment?

Why is it so expensive? We are a small country with a large population in cities only a few tens of miles apart. The National Grid does not have to run its power lines as far between cities as in France, Germany, Spain etc. The Generation companies have access to wind, hydro, solar, nuclear and gas powered stations. I am sure it is down to tax on the supply and the need to provide profit for shareholders. With our advanced industrial capabilities we should be able to run the industry efficiently to serve the nation, not just fat cats in foreign lands.
Spot on, our current system though is about maximising profit for companies which we allowed overseas investors to own.

The privatisation of certain industries as we have seen does not lower the cost to the consumer which for some industries were one reason they were nationalised in the first place.

Here's what I got on Christmas day. Well ok, a bit of cheating. It's the system on my house (10.8 kW) and I live in Tasmania, so it was near the longest day of the year, and it was a perfectly clear day (and a lovely calm 26 degrees).

Just hope the 200 & 300 watt systems on my Hymer in the UK are keeping my batteries ok.

You can go off people easily!

86kw? That is seriously impressive, the best I get from 3.6kw is about 20kw.

All we need is a long cable back to the UK......

Best I ever got from a 4Kw array was 28.2Kw when the system was about six months old. Twelve years and a poplar tree that has grown a bit plusa layer of grime later it peaks at around 24Kw.

Had our best day of the year today about 170wh!

Happy new year.

That high output from the system on my house (compared to ones in the UK) is likely due to the latitude I'm at (42 degrees South), though it is a top quality system.

I am amazed at how grim the sky can be, but you still get some output from the panels (on house or Hymer).

If you find the standard alternator charging doesn't recharge the leisure battery on a bad solar day, look into B2B chargers. I have a 30A one and it works really well.

Over the winter months our solar panel is obsolete, we have an all over cover, the batteries have a trickle charger permanently wired and that keeps both Tab and Engine battery in tip top condition and unlike the onboard charger doesn't boil them dry.
thanks to vanbitz our solar panel and batterymaster have done us proud. We are down near Portugal Spanish border at Ayamonte. Solar charging everything up during daylight phones i pad leisure battery. No need for EHU. a bit of gas for water heat . Great.

It's like being back on the Med here in Surrey today, not

This is mine at the moment, enough to keep my batteries fully charged but obviously won't replace any actual usage. Glad I had B2B fitted.

Our house solar panels and battery have only provided 10% of our use over the last month :(

Over the last year they have provided 80% of our needs - in the summer we only export to the grid, no import.

Today, cold and bright, they have provided all our electric since 10 am and the battery is 25% charged.

Anyone with house solar using a Solax inverter and the app have lost communication between the two.
