I recently registered with a charity to accommodate Ukrainian refugees. I found the details of the charity on one of the Fun threads but can’t find the original discussion so can’t add my questions to the thread.

Following the registration last week, I’ve been contacted today by a couple who would like to take us up on our offer. I’m going to commence discussions with them to find out more about the couple but was just wandering if any other Funsters have also registered and if they’ve had any contact from potential refugees. If so, can you share your experience such as what questions you went through to ensure they met your/the government‘s requirements. I feel awful questioning their authenticity but if we’re going to let strangers into our home when there will be times we’re away in the MH, we need to be as comfortable as we can be that everything is above board and they’re not just opportunists. One concern is that their Facebook and Instagram profiles look like they're enjoying a comfortable life, but of course the photos and posts will have been in the past I.e. before the invasion commenced. Another question is why the 25 year old male (they’re a couple with the partner being 26) is looking to flee the country rather than stay and defend).

Please don’t respond questioning why we’re making the offer but any constructive advice based on your thoughts and experience would be most helpful.

I think its entirely fair to blame the person in charge of a shambles.
The application disaster applies to absolutely everyone who has a child under the age of 5 who doesnt have a biometric passport.
I wouldnt be seeking her to bully anyone, just merely look at a situation, of her doing, and reconsider something which, in my view, is totally unnecessary. (or asking her to do her job to a satisfactory standard)
Like you we have put our names down for looking after a Ukraine family nothing as yet.
But maybe why the Home Office are dragging there feet has something to do with this.

Having waded through the inflammatory tripe spouted by the "reporter" who wrote that sh1te, it was reassuring to see the most highly rated comment was "Well Priti Patel is incharge, so that explains the mess".

The Home Office don't seem to be any slower than normal with processing refugees; they have been pretty useless for many years. The difference this time is that more folk are noticing the obstacle they put in the way for refugees applicants.

How hard would it be to say only parents need to do the application if children are under a certain age say 14. I know there's a theory about criminal infiltration but how likely is it that a child will be a potential terrorist infiltrater with a screened parent. Looks like they're either making it harder on purpose which seems the slant of the daily fail article or incompetent.

I don't think think that it is either / or. In this case, I think both reasons are most likely.

I also registered on the site mentioned by the OP and was contacted.

The first questions I asked was did they have passports and visas. It was just before the big announcements about visa restrictions being loosened and I suggested that should they not have visas they waited for the full announcement and we would take it from there. I also pointed out we are very rural and the best way to come into the UK would be ferry to Newcastle or plane to Edinburgh. Dover or London would not really be sensible options.

I didn't hear anything back :(

And the Government has declared that the checking process will not be a "light touch" as announced last week but it will be rigorous.

I'm wondering whether to start a sweepstake on how many Ukrainian refugees achieve sanctuary in the UK by the end of this year. My guess would be less than 10,000.

Our friends have registered their static caravan as available but have heard nothing.

The static would (we think) be ideal as it is totally self contained and has a shed attached (with laundry machines and freezer) plus has been stripped out and refurbished to the point where we just need to know who and when so we can put in new carpets and mattresses and bedding and fill the wardrobes with clothes.

The left will never be happy with what the government does as they are intellectually superior and possess hindsight. :giggle::ROFLMAO:

Interestingly my insurance company for my rental properties has emailed me to say that I simply need to notify them if my tenants are offering their accomodation to Ukrainian refugees. They do not need any other information about numbers or makeup of the refugees, but stipulate that for now it must not exceed 12 months. Non of my tenants have made a request to house any but it's a positive position for the company to take.(y)

We've had a reply from the official register for hosting refugees :). So a step forward and we can now start to do more to the static caravan to ready it. Planning to pressure wash it, re-insulate the floor and clean all the soft furnishings. Once we know about the inspection time lines and assuming all is okay we will spend the money for new mattresses and carpets and water heater. Once we know who we are hosting we can get clothes and fill the cupboards, make sure the duvet covers are age and gender appropriate etc etc etc.
