How much the bill ??

Looking at what folk pay and are expecting to pay, the only thing that springs to mind is people have money to burn !
Bi-yearly service from my local man is £240 inc all oils grease filters etc.
And charging £70 to fit a radio ? Simply GREED of the first order
If it takes them longer than 10 minutes ( inc bog time !) they are either incompetent or just ripping you off
Really boils my pee when firms take that much of a liberty

Our Hymer B544 three years old is at the supplying dealers for the following :-

Service including brake fluid change
Habitation check
Hymer damp check and spray
MOT
Fit replacement radio, supplied by me

Think I may need a mortgage ;)
Did to you get an estimate before you agreed the work.

£524.38
Approximately.

Yes on the service and radio fit but not on the habitation service which I wanted carried out by the main dealer I bought it from.

No idea about Hymers spray job but say £100 possibly included in habitation if you’re lucky
For Damp check with the spray UK dealers vary between the cheapest £120 (heart of England) up to £244 (Travelworld). I pay £60 (€70) at my Belgium dealer - Rip of Britain again.

We paid the Travelworld price two years ago . Last year, we had it done in Belgium :).

Do you do the gas check yourself? Ghat is the one item I always want to feel has been done properly
My nose works well.:)
Also carry a electronic gas sniffer in van. Which is what a lot of dealers use. Also easy to do a leak test with a water gauge (£17 @Screwfix)

Have been using a water gauge since my caravan days some 40 years. Not found a leak yet...:)

For the MOT I use a truck testing station in Middlewich, the man who does checks everything he can underneath van, especially places where damp can penetrate. When I asked why he was so particular he said he did the MOT on all the motorhomes brought in, it only takes a few moments so why not?

Interesting that, according to a comparison website, the cost of living in Belgium is over 9% higher than the UK - rip off Belgium? :)

The hab check includes checking all gas joints and it’s something I will leave to them
A simple single-point leakage check I'd imagine - 10 minutes max. How would they access and more importantly, how would they check, every gas joint?

I presume through lockers in the double floor, there must be joints/ tees in the system.
If it costs a bit so be it, since I bought new from Becks they have carried out all work including extras so only one place to go if any problems and they are a reliable dealer.

Which will not be accessed unless a leak is found on the gas test. No-one to my knowledge "examines" joints in the system unless the leak test indicates a leak. What would anyone look for? The video posted by @M-J shows exactly what I'd expect plus a check on whether any flexible hoses were within date. Cooker, oven, grill, and fridge tests are performed by the user each time he/she uses the appliances and are pretty pointless.

They would only look if a drop in pressure on the pressure test and assume would carry out the tests as in the above video.

I had a gas pressure test by a local plumber (Gas registered) cost me £20

I would think about £850 .

What do they spray with and why ?
Sounds like a scam for extracting the customers £££`s as painfully as possible.
I have asked dealers about that one and was always told to protect the floor, however can you protect a glassfire floor with the anti-rot that was sprayed onto the plywood to stop water damage? I think not , and that it has become a total scam, the other thing is how can you check for water ingress through a plastic coated material that is waterproof itself.. The alloy outer skin is one piece and the way in for water is the holes for windows and doors, the foam is waterproof and if it got through both that it has the ply to get at and affect, but unseen from inside as the plastic seals it from the inside unless they actually stick the probes through the skin making holes all over. Total bollXXXs from the older plywood floor models. good little scam to keep you coming back for sod all return for you. If an owner has water ingress it is because they are either not looking or totally unaware.. Biggest leak place is the joints between the sides and roof and the front mouldings.
I will not pay a weekspnsion to a dealer to do or not do something that I can do myself with a lot more diligence that they ever would.
Mine is coming to three years old and the work done by a dealer is zilch against what I had to do to it and mine was better and a damn sight quicker that the dealer would or could do.

……..and the answer is...……£...……. ?
