The Truma is a good unit and heats quick but just pay attention to what they tell you about moving from gas to electric and vice versa.

It's quite temperamental and does throw up error codes quite a lot if you are switching between sources.

Money is a commodity which is less and less important as we get older

Do it JJ As after the first hot shower, stepping out into a toasty warm van will give you far more satisfaction than sitting cold, shivering and smelly looking at your bank balance with three grand more in it.

Some people know the cost of everything, the value of nothing!

JJ Think of it like a Fray Bentos pie. It’s in a metal box, you can have it hot or cold and the pleasure it gives you when used is priceless.

Latest Update.

My brand new heater/boiler has been delivered to Camping-Technic in Silves and is due to be fitted on Tuesday Oct 22.

I was very surprised three days ago when the old system fired up again and I got hot water for a shower and the van was all cuddly warm.

For a little while I thought Sod's Law had fixed the old unit and the new one would be surplus to requirements but no, next day it refused to fire up again and hasn't worked since.

I am getting excited about the new boiler as it will work on electricity as well as gas and apparently can be controlled by an app on my phone whilst I am in bed.

Now that makes it worth the money in my book!

Swapped my old unit out a few years ago was also a tight spot but took my time just checked everything multiple times bonus is now I have electric water heater

Had exactly the same job done earlier in the year at a cost of circa £2,000 (it was part of another job so can't be precise) albeit of course it was in the UK. Happy because I now have reliable heating.
Just a note JJ to use it with an app it needs an addon electric controller thingy which is very expensive (I didn't go for it!) - unless of course your system comes with it included in which case your costing looks about right.

I am led to believe that this unit will be able to be controlled via Bluetooth on my phone...

Watching Ingo doing the work has increased my knowledge of the system immensely. I am well pleased to discover that my bed has it's own dedicated blown hot air pipe around it... cuddly or what!

Yep... I am definitely pretty (very) smelly... and boy how I will enjoy that first hot shower.

I had a new one maybe five years ago and it was £2500.

If you are handy, how about a Chinese diesel water heater?
Best of many worlds. Or mega Solar?

Sold camper vans for 25 years. We had a go with fitting Chinese diesel heaters and the result was a disaster. We had to replace most of them with a Russian brand which was a little bit more expensive but much more reliable. Webasto etc were a ridiculous price.
