How Much For Electric?!?!

On a site in UK right now, they want £7 per night for hook-up, we declined the offer.

I think we can all all expect to pay more for Electric Hook Up on sites in the near future.
My home dual fuel fixed rate Electric Tarif will be rising from 14P per KWH to 20P in a day or two, that's over 30% increase in a year! I have done the comparison website bit and cannot find any that much cheaper, or if they are, the daily standing charge goes up considerably.

Its OFGEM's fault saying that the wholesale cost has risen substantially in the last 12 months, so they have raised the price cap rate accordingly.
Funny that they never qualify or give us a reason why the wholesale costs have gone up by over 30% do they.

On the Caravan and Camping temporary holiday site at Southport Victoria park they charge £5 for electric.

The very reason we have just had solar installed on our house roof and a 7.2 kW LifePo4 battery pack to go with it to try and future proof the electric price rises to some degree.

At the Falls of Shin in Scotland there is an excellent facility for motorhomes with free water and £3 for black water waste disposal. I highly recommend a stay, but was a bit shocked at the price they charge for electricity:
£5.40 for 1 hour.
£10.20 for 3 hours.
£15.00 for 6 hours
£19.80 for 12 hours.

Is this the most expensive EHU in Europe?

EDIT, I didn't see Potty's post above before posting this.

I'd have thought they would fall foul of the "over charging for electricity" rules?

Not France but I don’t think we would opt for EHU at the new Aire at Falls of Shin:
1 hr £5.40
3 hrs £10.20
6 hrs £15.00
12 hours £19.80

Whaaaaaaaat???? OMG, that's ridiculous!! I'm sure there'll be people to happy to pay it....but I wouldn't.

I think so! It's ridiculous.

18euros a night with electric seems reasonable to me try finding a site for that here
Just booked a CL site in Bonny Scotland with EHU for £10 per night and a site with serviced pitch with EHU, water and grey water disposal for £20 per night and a sea view

They are out there you just have to look :giggle:

And I forgot site literally on the beach £13 no EHU, £17 with EHU so £4 for the leccy

You don’t like the price don’t stay, or lump it all together and then at €18.00 it’s quite reasonable. Do you squeak when you walk?

Tight ? That ain’t tight, that’s super tight 😳😳😳

We have just been on a CL which was on a meter we stayed 4 nights and we used £3.15 in four nights must admit no heating was used (y) gutted i left 85p on it :LOL:(y)
Another Yorkshireman? 😇

Looking at the forecast for September this morning, and I doubt we will do many trips without electricity this year, short cloudy days and the need for heating will see to that

If you consider the cost of gas per day against the cost of EHU then €8 per night would be a little expensive. However the cost of €10/day campsite cost + EHU overall it’s pretty good if the site is nice. A 6kg cylinder lasts us about a week with minimum use of heating. To get an exchange 6kg cylinder, if you can get one in this current climate (shortage of cylinders due to shortage of steel I’ve heard), I would use EHU to preserve the gas. 6kg cylinder usage is approx £5/day (without EHU).

If you have an refillable fitted system then I can only assume gas is more readily available. Talking of 6kg Calor cylinders they are not available in France. We have the option of using French cylinders with a different regulator, but then French cylinders are different to Spanish cylinders etc. Am considering having a Gaslow system fitted, as this appears to be a good option for travelling through different European countries.

Can’t you just book the site and tell him that’s all they had including EHU? £18 per night doesn’t seem too bad.

Hi all. I've just asked for prices for a pitch at a B&B in France. The price is €10 per night......with an extra charge of €8 for hook up!! 😱 My husband is a Yorkshireman, for goodness sake, I can't tell him that, it'll be the end of him!!!! What do you reckon is the average price for hook up in France? If it's any more than €8 even I, as a Lancashire girl, will be keeling over!! :ROFLMAO:

BTW, I can go without electric. My question was "What do you reckon is the average price for hook up in France?" :)
Hi again

We have just arrived home after nearly a week on the Med coast with our club at a private aire and I noticed that they were charging 3€ a day for electricity. Certainly it wasn't necessary for anyone with a solar panel, not with wall-to-wall sunshine. What bliss once the laptop ran out of power. No internet - yeeaay

Total 18€ per night isn't too bad for France. Need some solar if you want to save.

Desolé, madam. For your pauvre husband, I will make the concession. Instead of €10 for zer pitch+ €8 for zer, 'ow you say, 'leccy', I can make a special price of €13 for zer pitch and only €5 for zer leccy ...

Steve

Is there a reason for charging it that way, like less tax or tourist tax if the pitch is lower price and charge more for the electric ?

I already have solar. I did say "BTW, I can go without electric". My question was "What do you reckon is the average price for hook up in France?"
