How much for 13Kg calor gas?

Just replaced one of my 13Kg propane bottles...... £40.73 for a refill?????

It was £32.75 last time!

I had no idea gas was this sort of cost now

Just edited my post saving is more like £190/year.
We use about 150 Lt in a normal year, about £87 at current prices (58p/lt).

We switched to an underslung tank 8 years ago, at the time to save space inside.

Seems this was a good investment as we use roughly twice the amount of gas you do, since going fulltime

Since fitting our Gaslow 10 years ago at a cost of £350, we've used 1311 litres at an average cost of 60p p.l. so that's £786, plus the fitting = £1136.

Same amount of Calor using 13kg bottles (we can only fit more expensive 6kg but ignore that for now) at the current published price would be £1826 (13kg = 25.48 litres - 51 bottles).

And that ignores the fact that you will almost never completely empty a Calor bottle, so greater overall cost.

No humping heavy bottles about. No changing bottles or connectors going abroad. Never ever failed to find a refill point when we've needed it, usually start looking when first bottle is empty. And you can usually transfer the system between vans if you sell.

No brainer!

Calor depot in sunny West Suffolk charge 35.95 for 13kg. Closed at the moment but deliver locally.
The Risby depot was the one I was referring to earlier, it's cheaper to buy them at the local farm shop in Lavenham than go direct with Calor.

You are lucky our local Calor distribution center in Southampton it's £45.00 for a 13 kg Calor propane, its cheaper from GoOutdoors 400 yards up the road if you gave a discount card, but as Socal supply most of the other outlets round here their price is mostly echoed.
Have you tried Solent Bottle Gas...... delivered !!!! we are also in Southampton and do usr these instead of Calor at Milbrook

Are you aware you can take it with you when/if you sell the van and just replace it with the previous calor gas.

An LPG system is for life not just for the current van.
Well, it's for 10 years anyway. After that the tank needs recertifying, which I would guess (without any evidence whatsoever) is more expensive than just buying a new cylinder.

My research some years ago, discovered that the 10 x year recertification, only applied to liquid feed off tanks, such as those used in LPG powered vehicles. This was a UN directive, which was confirmed by a fellow Funster who is far more knowledgeable than I on the subject, and also by the LPG installer in Peterborough, who checked our ageing bulk tank installation over for security and gas safety, including leak testing. He then issued a company headed certificate to that effect, which I passed on to the new owners.
Have the rules since changed?

When we got the Flair last winter, we did consider having another bulk tank fitted, replacing the Gaslow twin cylinder system, however, we've not had a fair chance to guage our gas consumption with the Alde heating since ownership, compared to the Truma heating in the Hymer. We are now 22 litres less in capacity, than we were with the bulk tank. 😕

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

I have opted for a "middle ground" and bought Safefill bottles.
Luckily i have an LPG station less than 2 miles away and so a 10kg / 19ltr refill costs me under £10.

There is the outlay for the bottles but my view is that each time I refill i am saving at least the same amount of cash and paying me back for the bottles. The bottles can be taken out and sold or moved to another van very easily.
I dont have to move the van off site to go get any refills.

The fixed system like gas it / gaslo is something i would consider if we were bigger consumers.
We've just gone for Safefill..... easy to fill locally and can be swappable or used for BBQ etc as a standalone..... after last years Calor prices and bottle shortages due to folks holidaying here and lots more camping..... I decided now was the time to invest

Had Alugas on last but one van however it would not fit so reluctantly sold the bottles, went on calor for a while but then back to Safefil, just refilled a 11kg and 8 kg for £21. Calor is a complete rip off. If everyone took the initiative and boycoted Calor and went for the refillables the demand would create a better viable supply. Unfortunately its the only redeeming feature of the French that they act rather than talk and moan about it like us Brits..

I was quoted £74 for a Calor exchange 47kg bottle for the workshop. My son's just started a new lad on who's father runs a static site that uses this size, doubled up on most of the vans. He's obviously buying in bulk, but can do me a refill for £52 !

Just got to work out how you can get one in the van to save even more. Haha

Even with our ton of spare payload, that wouldn't be an option for me.

Our daughter pays £70 - £75 per 47Kg Calor refill, pending the time of year. :( She finds it cheaper to cook on electric, and just heat with gas.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

They seem to be around the £60 mark around here, but then there is a lot of static holiday vans on the coast.

I’ve now got three 11kg Flogas bottles I refill them at the local Brandon Tool Hire in Mansfield £23. A refill. problem is finding a stockist when you’re away who doesn’t rip you off we paid 39 quid for one in Wales at a builders merchant
