How much battery voltage drop overnight?

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Last night i left the tv on standby and got up to a flat leisure battery after driving for about 4 hours ( so should have been fully charged) Ive checked today and am getting battery useage at 0.45 Amps with nothing running other than the fridge on gas. Is that usual or do i need a new battery as its losing power due to age/defect in some way? Would tv on standby after 6 hours of watching it drain it sufficiently so that it would be "flat' the next day?
 
Hope you’re never at a Petrol station when I am. That’s a potential bomb. 3 way fridges run on 12v when travelling and when you stop they take about 15 mins to change over to gas on the basis that is enough time to fill up. They don’t immediately change to gas as that’s having a naked flame at a petrol station.!!!


Just to put your mind at ease we don't have a 12v connection to the fridge so the change over is done manually, thus there is NEVER a naked flame when filling up which means Never a potential Bomb.

thanks for all the responses. this is what I have decided

1 order and fit new battery
2 fit sterling b2b 50 amp

I discussed with Alpha batteries this morning and as I am fitting a sterling b2b they advised on an AGM battery (with the opportunity to add a further within 6 months) - they advised removing the old charger and replacing it with the sterling

so hopefully I wont have any more issues for a while …..

I too am a happy chappie with my Sterling 50A B2B, which I fitted 5/6 years ago. I also had help to fit 2 x 6v traction batteries which are FLA, and are still going strong.
I am pleased that you have decided not to act on the advice from Alapha batteries, as it was shite. The onboard charging system should remain in situ, and serve to keep the batteries topped up when on EHU.
I'm sure that the age of your MH, will mean that it will have a multi stage charger.

With 2 x 85w solar panels, 2 x 6v traction batteries, and the Sterling B2B, we can be off grid for several weeks at a time, totally independent of EHU. (y)

Thanks. Just trying to work.out the connection to the alternator. It says xonnect to rhe alternatot b+, but the wire seems to terminate in what may be a sensor ( i am.hoping it is the full sensor and not a broken bit off the end as the b2b was second hand) Its to ensure the alternator doesnt overheat. havent accessed the alternator yet so it might be a simple process. Any clues on how it fits?

So new queiries/thoughts
1 if the battery was goosed, just by idling the engine for about an hour surely it wouldnt put enough power into the battery unless there is a B2B already installed? How would i know?

Sorry to go back a few pages in this thread, but could someone answer this for me (and save me starting a new thread to ask the same question)? We have had very similar problems, and are awaiting new batteries (I think the old pair of 110ah now have a capacity of about 20ah), but a b2b charger sounds like a great idea, but I think we may already have one ('Mouse' has had tons of off grid modifications from her previous owners), how would I find out? Where would one be fitted (eg. by the batteries or by the alternator)?

A b2b should be fitted somewhere between the engine battery and the leisure battery. It will need fairly substantial cable connections to both batteries. In my Hymer the existing wiring from the leisure battery to the ebl with a 50A fuse was ok, so I intercepted it.

I am no expert but you might get some hints from the leisure battery voltage when the engine is running. My B2B cuts in with a small delay after the engine starts and then maintains a steady 14.6v until my battery is charged, when it drops back to 13.8v (the settings for my battery). It does not seem to be affected by engine revs, prior to fitting the B2B I think the voltage fluctuated somewhat with engine revs and other factors associated with a smart alternator.
