How Many Do You Cater For?

For stuff like plates, cuttlery etc. we have whatever the "set" is, usually 6.
Otherwise we have just however many we need (yeah right).
But we "need" to take extra, "just in case", Don't we.

I adjust according to destination, season, length of trip and who is going, 4 china mugs, 2 coffee cups, 2 big french breakfast cups good for soup / cereal, always 4 wine, 4 beer glasses, 4 shot glasses, 2/4 melamine plates & bowls for picnics, 2 thermal cups for coffee when travelling, 2 /4 posh white denby china bowls/plates. Cutlery for 4/6. Little tea pot, milk/cream jug, oxo measuring jug.
Small Nespresso machine, electric kettle, Cafetiere for off hook up, hand blender gadget, Small Oxo salad spinner, decent sized saute pan with lid, small bain marie (2 small pans & lid, can boil water for tea if no electric), poaching pods, posh little serving board! Couple of little fishy shaped dishes, 4 tapas bowls, microwave steamer bags, cobb in summer and remoska or redmond multicooker in winter.... Couple of small cheap microwave bowls, small & medium bamboo mixing/serving bowls. Dabba spice box, couple of good knives, spatulas etc. Will visit weigh bridge before next big trip and adjust as necessary! Don't use gas hob/ oven much at all, just for a quick cuppa if off hook up, heat rolls, grill toast.
Small table for cobb, table for outside, only take as many chairs as we need for occupants ....friends on site will just bring round there own. We need room for bikes Kayak and wine! Taking much less food now shopping as we go and supermarkets are easiest places to park anyway.

oh, forgot the 2 beer glasses for Alan (he does have 2 hands so one for each obviously!) and forgot the 2 things for cooking in the microwave that live in it and are rarely used.

Good grief ! - I really couldn't be arsed to pack different things - it's either in there or not, if we desperately need anything we haven't got, or got a way of making do - then we'd just go and buy one of whatever and it would become a permanent item in it.

So - van has it's own wooden spoons, salad servers, salad bowl, colander, tongs, serving and draining spoons, fish slice, spud masher, grater etc etc etc. What it hasn't got is a tablespoon though - we commented on that when we were away in it earlier this week! It soon will have, though !

Absolutely agree! The MH has everything I need including measuring spoons and cups (foldable ones). Also have all the essential kitchen tools - probably too many - have them shoved in a plastic tumbler but definitely getting over-crowded now!

We have deep cereal bowls (x3) and also what daughter refers to as "dishes with a dint" (also x3) - I think they are probably pasta bowls / plates but we use them a lot as they can either do duty as extra plates or bowls and I like them for any dish with a sauce as it doesn't spill or slop as easily. Great for rice and curry.

2 mugs, 2 plates, 2 bowls and some cutlery. Don't take glasses--can drink water from a bottle.

But add in the dog stuff, 2x bowls, water bowl, spare water bowl, leads, 2 x tying stakes, 2 x tether leads, and you can see why there's so little for me!

We got a shock when we had to empty the van when downsizing, 4 large plates 4 tea plates 2 cereal bowls two soup bowls 4 mugs 3 wine glasses 2 half pint glasses 2 whiskey glasses, cutlery for four 1 frying pan, one saucepan a small pressure cooker 1 microwave pan a couple of microwave dishes a Tupperware measuring jug a salad cum mixing bowl 1 electric kettle 1 hob kettle with fold down handle.
The chairs we changed from the two with separate leg rests for two smaller ones that we use with 2 Isabella stools that we can use if not staying long, we have just bought a table top for one of them to use for our coffee breaks. My bread I hang in a
Lakeland bag , it free,s cupboard space , that I hang on a sticky hook behind the dinette.
I've changed all my towels for microfibre ones Not to everyone's taste but we find O.K I keep a couple of beach towels under the bed just in case we find a beach we are allowed on with the dogs,! This is what is in now ! Not what we took out I've scaled it all down believe it or not .

Tell me about it! 3 x normal leads, 3 x expanding leads, 3 x harnesses, 3 x collars, 3 x jackets, 2 x corkscrew type stakes, brushes, numerous towels, 2 x 'soft kennel' type dog beds, 1 x large padded flat dog bed, numerous cushions, 3 x dog bowls, 1 x water bowl, tins of food and bags of biscuits, treats, medicines, first aid kit ...

... then there's the toys ... I've just 'reduced' them to one large tub although the little s*ds keep knicking the one's I've put in a bag to go to the Greyhound Trust and 'hiding' them ... no doubt to sneak them back in the new van!!!

Some honest admissions from the ladies, now then gentlemen, how many tools etc?
I don't have multiple items but do have 1 of everything.
Screws, fuses, screwdrivers, wire, plugs, tape, (insulating and double sided), bulbs, spanners, wire, crocodile clips, magnet, pen, pencil, knives, scissors, etc.

You clearly forgot the Blutak (to stick the rally plaques up with) and the fishing rod(s) et al !

Do other people keep the van supplied with toiletries and basics such as herbs, spices, condiments etc too? And when you go shopping do you go, eg A box of teabags (or whatever it happens to be) for home and one for the van too?

I personally forgot about the towels, bed linen etc that 'belong' to the van .........

Yes and if I took that much stuf for myself I would be told I don't need all that!!

We have one large bed that both have to go in ! between you and me I have just in the las two weeks got one of my dogs OUT OF MY BED so fingers crossed she will go in with Teddy ! up to now she will just curl up with him when travelling for security !! these bags that Aldi get in from time to time designed for car boots , are very handy for putting their stuff in balls/harnesses/leads/meds, the rest goes in a hanging bag that goes over the passenger seat which has zipped pockets in that take the dog towel/poo bags/leads Im using and anything else of theirs. And being less than 5kgs BOTH on corkscrew does the job which I keep in the back under the bed with the chairs etc.

Yes I have toiletries I leave in the van, tea bags are best decanted in to zip freezer bags , breakfast cereal is decanted in to a stacker polythene box also dog food in a thing long one that sits in the side of a cupboard , the bag to refill it is hidden away in the back of the van also under the bed. Herbs and such like I keep in a box because they always seem to leak out somehow, my tea/coffee canisters are in a rack screwed in a cubby hole out of the way! every nook and cranny has something stuffed in for travelling like the kettle and teapot(would you believe its glass?? but it can double up as a fresh coffee pot! its fine wrapped up and shoved tight! the first one hubby broke in the wash ups !! he doesn't get his hands on this one. lol.
