How far do folks venture for a weekend break?

In this country about four hours from home max, but when living in central Germany a 750 km drive was a doddle from departure midday Friday to arrive home midnight on Sunday. It's all about the roads you intend to travel on, but here in UK there are few places which are congestion free on a Friday. (try saying that last bit fast!)(y)

Hi, we've recently swopped our caravan for a motorhome and feel that you can probably go further in the mh for a weekend as there's not so much to set up at the other end.:)

I do remember it well though when the kids were littlies and we both worked full time - rush to get home and away, then to get to site before 8pm.

We loved the time spent with the kids, walking, cycling etc.

We often headed up to the Peak District.

A true weekend away ( Friday later afternoon and home on Sunday evening ) we limit to a 60 mile range ( unless it is for a Fun meet or a motorhome show )
That way we are not spending too long driving too and from, and not spending too much on diesel :)

we go no more than 3 hours, but there is so many places to go. the only problem I have got that if I want to get to the seaside. I live right in the middle. cant any further from the sea.

First hurdle will be getting in/out of our village.
People do seem to like parking (their 2 extra cars that just won't fit on their driveways) like idiots across the mouth of junctions don't they?
At 8.5m the MH isn't small, but I guess our old X5- bailey senator Carolina outfit (around 11m) was worse.
And hey, I'm not driving! ;)

We just came back doing a coastal walk at Oxwich Bay, its our 4th time down that way each being a Friday dinnertime start and coming back Sunday morning 5 hours each way but the countryside over the Brecon is Gorgeous

Well we've come down to Cornwall just from Saturday to Monday...'sposed to have left Friday night but I was too knackered! It's a 5/6 hour drive but totally worth it...currently in bed listening to the wind and feeling cosy!

Living about 17 miles from the tunnel, it's easy for us to be down near the Somme or a little further in a couple of hours, which we do, regularly

Next weekend we are leaving Friday afternoon and driving to Brighton so about 170 miles each way, and then then weekend after we're going to Wales so anothe 320 mile round trip, thing is we love being away on our motor home, driving it, using it using it. It's the 8 MPH he that's the painful bit lol

That is pretty well what we do. Keep it within a nice easy drive unless it's an organised thing such as the New Year meet

Wow eddie that's some weekend 320 miles @ 8 MPH:whistle:

as we live in west wales lots of places to go, but as my son lives in north staffordshire we go near there at times 4 hours with stops or place near nat trust houses last time was at shipston on stour 4 hours, problem with living in west wales a bit of driving to do before the border:) as others have said not much choice in direction but its nice to see different places:)

We try to avoid the M25 on a Friday afternoon :). We do a lot of rallies locally with both clubs some close to home, some a bit further but we try to keep it within 1.5 hours travelling time.

For me for a weekend its 20 miles at the most. Anymore than that and I'll either get very wet or have to pay a fortune to leave the island.
Mind you having said that we do have a lot of beautiful places to go and if you're good and clean up after you you don't usually get hassled.

cover abut 120 miles over the weekend and had a grate time wilding
bill

Hoping to get away twice a month - at least in better weather. Near or far, I think the biggest turnoff is the traffic. So I think the best plan is to work from home on Friday and bundle the kids in the MH, as close to 3:30 as possible.
Returning early on a Monday sounds naughty - bit like playing truant - but I like the sound of it!
Don't bother about the weather. Go whenever even if its raining. We do & we love it being all snug and warm in our MH whilst outside its either blowing a gale or tipping it down or both.
This is the UK where its been known to have all four seasons in a single day:rolleyes: so its folly to let the weather govern when you should take your trips

we have just spent the night less than 1 mile from home in one of our local wilding spots now p'###g it down but still fun
bill

Try Motor Caravanners Club (MCC) they have area groups where they have weekend meets within a couple of hours drive, you can also visit other area groups meets

have tried them for a couple of weekends. found them a bit clicky.

Same as op, I wfh Fridays and Mondays with a view to heading off on either asap on Friday - or Thursday evening and work from the van during the day. I have family in Kent and the traffic down there at the mo is appalling. Suffolk is a good option for us.

We have been limiting ourselves to no more than 2 hours' away, taking into account that our old girl doesn't go fast!!! And travel light and simple, so we can literally park up, hook up and that's it!!!

You have to plan on mileage rather than time in the North West, 2 hours travelling could be 120 miles at 5am or 20 miles later in the day

I'd say around 100 miles, 6-7 gallons in fuel , from warrington there's a lot of choice within 100 miles.

Thought that but a good one.
Here at Chester Rally
45mins Thursday morning getting here, could be longer today going home though!

Nice to see an old thread resurrected. I reckon three hours is about my limit if only away for two or three days.

Where we live, 100 miles would get us just about anywhere in the Highlands, along east coast Moray Firth or Cairngorms national Park.

2hrs ish gets us to Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, obviously Devon.

Generally anything longer we make it a 10-11 night trip, which for now tends to be family orientated, so do what we need to do with them then a few days by ourselves.

We used to go to Skegness at the weekends when I worked so about 80 miles.
Before Ann lived here my weekend breaks were to Ann's flat in Glasgow, just a quick 268miles 💔😆 we had some good nights out in Shawlands.

25 minutes away, mini weekend ( napton on the hil) (y)

If we can only get away on a Friday afternoon we try to travel an hour and a half max. We stay Sunday night then leave first thing Monday so we're in work early. Makes you feel like you've had a full weekend then !!
