How Do People Use Their Motorhomes?

CLs are certificated locations. Many are established by the CAMC. They can only accept 5 vans, caravans or motorhomes. CSs are certified sites, regulated by the CCC also 5 Vans but also some tents. For CSs you must be a CCC member. For CAMC CLs you must be a CAMC member. But there are other CLs regulated by Motorhome fun, aka Jim, and also by the Motorhome Club. Both allow nonmembers to use, but still 5 van sites.
It is worth exploring the website/app search for sites which allows you to filter on these sites.

I know this will be a silly question but what is CL's or CS's (campsites?) short for? We are complete newbies lol!!

We had our first trial night away last night with our dog who is very nervous, so these replies have given me hope! We only went to wareham forest, just half hour drive, he shook the whole way but we were in a car accident 2 years ago where we were overturned so partly due to that and partly as he is a big soft golden retriever who doesn't like change!

Where do you stay that's good in the new forest for walking from site as that's our next intended location, it's an hour away so building him up! Woods walks are his favourite so hoping this will mean he will soon relate MH to fun walks!

Great Post thank you!
Can recommend Back of Beyond Campsite, adults and dogs only!( staying there this week coming!

Thank you. Just looked it up, it could be perfect for us as we hope to meet our son who lives in London in new forest more often as its almost midway point between us and they could stay in one of the glamping pods with their dog for a night, while we're in our motorhome be perfect 🤗

Thank you! I am finding it all a bit overwhelming to learn! Glad we got away overnight this weekend though a step in right direction. We have a grandchild due any day now, so short trips are ideal for both the dog and babysitting duties!
Have some more abbreviations to learn now lol! I am going to join caravan and motorhome club, just thought would wait until got going properly.
My husband had said about those certified sites, sound really good, especially when on longer trips its nice to have a mixture of sites and facilities

I've still not stayed over anywhere in Wales as every one used to say it was very motorhome UNfriendly mainly related to wild camping which you've said you mainly do. So is it better now than it used to be?
Hi Paul,

We've found that after covid many car parks have officially opened up to allow overnighting, some with 24 hrs toilet facilities. We most often wildcamp, but if we want a meal out and a drink then we have found the car park extremely useful...although not my favourite place as you can imagine- mountain views or car park

Just wondering how people use their motorhomes? We have a dog and we generally use CLs or CSs. We only use the site as a place to stay overnight. During the day we drive somewhere, park up and go for walks. Any planning for a holiday involves finding plenty of places to park reasonably near to the site.
Getting a bus from a site isn't an option for us because of the dog. Planning is always an issue as husband is of the opinion that "we'll find somewhere we can park", I like it all planned from the start. A work colleague of mine used to accuse me of micro-managing, can't think what he means really.
The New Forest is just amazing for holidays like this, we go several times a year.
Any other suggestions of similar places that would work for us will be appreciated.
We mainly use ours for Concerts. Big fan of pub stopovers enroute to somewhere (Brtistops) but like to take our bikes on the back and rock up near to canals, Heritage Railways and such like. Once hooked up we generally leave hooked up and get public transport, cycle or walk. Pretty easy for us as we don't have a dog....................yet!

We live in Lincoln. Our favourite place is Ferry Meadows, Peterborough. Only site is Caravan and Motorhome which has just gone up to £32 a night😧. The site is on edge of Neme Valley Park. A fantastic park with acres of fields, lakes. Tarmac paths and whole park is kept immaculate.
Great walking with dogs safely off leads and good biking. You can catch steam train into Peterborough. Chef and Brewer pub just up road plus a huge garden centre.
5 minutes up road from us is Hartsholm Park with small council site. Park is great, river walks and lakes. Bus outside into Lincoln where there are 2 Wetherspoons 🤗. We wish we were further away so we would want to stay there but we walk dogs in there every day.
Ferry meadows is a great site highly recommend it 😊
