How do manage in a motorhome with just two cooking rings?

We also have a gas oven for most meals. Perfect for ready meals

We have three gas rings and use an Omnia oven.
Most European vans don’t have an oven fitted ( it was an option on ours so we decided against one) and they seem to manage fine without one.
As do we. You just need to cook food that doesn’t need an oven.

I use a Pressure cooker also wouldn’t be without my remoska of course you need hook up I. Cook everything including sponge cakes scones Also steak, chops everything cooks in the remoska it’s also great for warming food.

Small Crock Pot. Place in sink where it won`t move very far!. Plug into 300W inverter. and drive. Arrive on site. Hot meal. Did the same in the USA only with a larger rig. That and a BBQ. And enough gas rings to make Morning porridge, whilst boiling a kettle for coffee / tea.

Friends of ours wants to buy a small van and has seen one he likes. The problem his wife sees is has only two gas rings and no oven. HOW do you manage with only two gas rings? They intend to use the van for longish holiday .

I can cook a full Sunday lunch at home using only two burners,,all the veg in a steamer on one and gravy on the other.Joint either in slow cooker or to romeska..Why would you need more than two?.?.BUSBY.

Remoska, Ridge Monkey, Steamer .... the first needs hook up but great for a wee change ...

One pot meals. Only need one ring then ! Can do good meals that way and I do believe there are cook books for one pot meals as well.

Blimey! When I was in the army we had to manage living outdoors in winter with just a single solid fuel burner to cook on.

Well, an alternative view. From all the above replies it’s clear that for lots of folk a 2 burner hob plus alternative’s does the job.

Not for us. In Uk, if evening meal is in the van, we have M&S or Waitrose ready meals cooked in the oven with veg on the hob, we personally wouldn’t be without an oven!

Great that we all are different, we also couldn’t be bothered with a barbecue of cadac, yet more stuff to clean!

As I said, a different view!!

We only have 2 gas rings and really don’t need more. No oven or microwave, Also have a ramoska when on hook up. Travel 3-4 weeks no problems you can cook a very varied meal on 2 rings, never had a problem and would put really want more. Takes up space.

Quite easily. The tec tower oven is useless but the Cadac is useful for a lot of things. do not miss the four ring cooker/oven/grill at all. we just comprised

We only have two rings. No oven. No microwave. No Cadac. We visited the Outer Hebrides in September and were away for 3 weeks. Ate out once for lunch. All other meals in the van (and I mean in - because of the weather!) Well, except a full English( Scottish?) breakfast by the Lochside one day. I had wanted an oven in the van, but we cope really well without. We have a three tier steamer from Aldi/Lidl, a small saucepan from poundland, a miniscule frying pan (one egg size), and a ridgemonkey. We can cook everything we need from breakfast to brownies, and a full roast dinner by buying readycooked chicken breasts and reheating them in the steamer over the veg and spud layers, then use the veg water to make gravy.....

We only use one saucepan to cook potatoes and veg. Start off with the potatoes and then add other veg depending on their cooking time. Saves water and and washing up! Double skillet for meat and cook onions, mushrooms, etc in it whilst meat is resting.

We have 3 rings and have on every van but have used more than 2 at once.

On a French aire we'll use a small gas hob instead of the cadac and always tastes great.........that is apart from when I bought a pizza stone for the cadac and we made our own pizzas; black as coal on the bottom and luke warm on the top...more practice with that I think!
Enjoy it whatever you do!

we cook lots of pizzas on the stone using the cadac, we find its brilliant. we dont do them from scratch though, we buy a cheap UNFROZEN basic pizza and add whatever we want or have to hand, peppers, cheese, lardons, sea food, mushrooms etc we also find that by using the lid it helps to cook whatever is on top but thats not essential. make sure you put a bit of flour on the stone beforehand and rotate the pizza to stop it sticking. you dont need to place the pizza on the stone immediately, let it heat through for a few minutes, then add the sprinkling of flour and the unfrozen basic pizza and then add the toppings. if you cook more than one pizza, the second or subsequent pizzas cook a lot quicker, so keep an eye on them or turn the gas supply down as it may be that youre cooking them too quickly ?

ive even used the pizza stone on conventional charcoal bbq's and even large gas bbq's with the same good results. so dont give up on pizzas or the pizza stone,

its a pizza piss when you get the hang of it :xgrin: :xgrin: :xgrin: :xgrin: :xgrin:

Not sure we could manage with 2 rings without an oven in the colder months, not a problem when it’s warmer as I do most of the cooking outside on the cadac.

We have 3 gas rings in our PVC. Only ever used 2 at the same time. KISS catering.

On tour we prefer pub lunches. :xsmile:

We have 3 gas rings and an oven.

We have probably rarely used all 3 rings but the space comes in useful for two reasons; parking a hot pan with cooked contents and for when we want to use the big frying pan which probably would be too big for a 2 ring cooker, if you need the second ring.

The oven I would not be without - I like doing full-size roasts, and of course the grill at the top for lamb chops, toast etc.

With our set-up we eat the same as at home - no compromise, which would be sacrilege with my wonderful OH's cooking.

Our last motorhome had just two rings and a microwave (no oven) and was specified as such to provide more cupboard space.

The alternatives are legion if you really need an oven, we never found it a problem
