How close is too close

Agreed thats why I'm here for the night only and booked sites for the remainder.
I also have access issues so another reason why I book sites but just couldn't get anywhere until tomorrow .
I know camping and motorhoming have increased within the last 12 to 18 months and as a previous caravaner before I made the jump to MH (and won't look back either) you could always find a site somewhere but perhaps in a year or 2 MH may drop in price and people will be going on a plane for their hols...then I should be able to get a space on a site pretty much as I did when I was tugging 👌👌

I appreciate your problem but unfortunately if you leave a big enough gap someone is likely to fill it, a bit like leaving a safe gap when driving.

I think the trick is to leave a gap just too small for another motorhome but leaving a reasonably comfortable distance, it takes practice  ......and even then you can bet someone will try and squeeze in!

Another problem is when you leave a perfect gap that no one will want to get in and then the other van moves!

Some people feel safer parked next to other motorhomes. Maybe they took one look at yours and thought I’ll park mine next to it because if someone’s going to break in, they’ll go for yours before mine!
As others have said, if you’re in a car park, then that’s what it is. It’s not a site.
We’ve not been able to open our windows on some French Aires in the past due to the close proximity of the next van.
Maybe he too is struggling to get on a site and thought I’ll leave room for some other poor soul?

I can appreciate that but there is more than ample room but like you say he may like to be close and I can understand that to a point.
Perhaps I was just taught to be cautious.

Are you saying because his is newer and posher than mine it will be easier to break into lol (joking) I'd like to see someone break in mine being 6,6 and 20 stone lol even with bad legs I've never met anyone who could outrun a bit of 4 x 2 timber following them hahahaha 😲🤪🤪

Think it's time for a beer and nice cosy kip then head off in the morning refreshed mate! Mines a Carling ta! ;)

I wondered what all the moaning was about next door to me…. Didn’t realise it was you…😉

I’ve heard of a van being parked in an empty Aire and another van comes in and parks right next to it, first van moves to the other side of the aire…. He wakes up in the morning and the other van is right next to him again…🤷🏼😆

Happens with long distance wagons! Never park remotely, security in numbers even if only 2 of you. Heard instinct maybe?

There’s six vans here (five max allowed) we can walk between but not both at once. Good overnight though. Navigation at Buxworth Basin. Best the OP doesn’t come here as he would need it all to himself 😂🤭.

I'm parked at present on public ground. Unfortunately a group has turned up set up a tent , comendered the pichic table lit a fire in a bbq on top of it and are now having a jolly good time. Any consideration for others NO. I can move but need to be in the area tomorrow. But I will be starting early with My telly blearing radio on and engine running and possibly reving .I may even be so happy I have to sing very loudly at 6am

We arranged to meet up with some online friends in a field in Germany (actually the N+B factory) they parked possibly 4 metres from us in a big field and asked "are we too close"? as it was the factory open weekend we were expecting a few more vans so I said you would be safest leaving no more than a van width between us as you are likely to find somebody in between, they laughed. We went out for a meal and when the came back the field was still pretty empty but guess what? ;) a Dutch van had just managed to get in the gap:LOL:

Must admit I am guilty of this on Aires , if I arrive and there are other vans or even only one ,I will park next to them, leaving just less than a vans width.
Makes sense to me to keep them parked like that than have everyone parked all roads wasting space .

Where do you keep a bit of 4 x 2 in a MH? Just asking.

Hi All,
Just your opinion on something?
I am currently parked for the night at Blue Bank view point and have been for a few hours when 5 mins ago another MH pulled between me and another MH.
That's a risk one runs when one camps in a car park where overnight parking and camping is banned by byelaws.

5-6ft sounds fine to me often only 2 or 3 ft on French Aires.
Ive had them park where you can only just open the hab door and squeeze out ....not often though as that one in the photo looks hell.

True
It is a car park 10 out of 10 for observation but still don't alter the fact more than likely 8 or 9 out of 10 of people would see the potential hazards not to mention stepping out the hab door on to his
If you are using as a car park it should not matter.

Beggars can't be choosers

I had someone park about 2 ft away at praa sands it seemed a bit close but once they had stopped going in and out of their hab door it was not a problem, i could have moved (there was plenty of space elsewhere in the car park) but preferred to keep my sea view

Park a reasonable distance apart, get the genny out and plug it in....................... No need to turn it on :)

How to avoid people parking too close.......also a great way to wind up the locals

Hi All,

I thought to be safe incase of fire risk etc and also to be respectfull in the distance I left with van that was already there I would park 5 meters away.
Well this knob has now left a gap of 5 to 6 foot between both of us either side (I wouldn't mind but there is ample space for at least another 6 or 7 MH to park without parking too close).
Is it me being petty or is it the old git being a knob pulling between us?
Thanks
Personally if there was the room you say I always prefer to park as far away from anyone else as possible, having said that given there are ever increasing numbers of vans looking for good spots to park overnight I wouldn't expect any space next to me to remain long and to be honest if I'm only parking for the night a van only being 5/6 feet away from me wouldn't bother me. Life's to short to get uptight about summat thats not gonna bother you more than one night.

It is a public car park!!!
They have as much right as you to be there.
If you want personal space, go to formal campsite.
Same goes on Aires
Here's the update is presistantly raining and blowing a gale. I slept though until now and was woken up by the poor buggers putting away their tents and planning their next stop I nearly feel sorry for them 😅😅😅
