Hose Pipe

As mentioned, I'm just using 5m of normal hose. It sits in a hose bag all the time and it's pretty stiff, so it stays naturally coiled. I normally fill without it touching the floor. I've never had an issue with getting close enough to the tap. To drain it, just let it return to it's coiled state and rotate it so the water drops out Archimedes style (you only dump it on your front and feet once). It's only a few loops of hose, so it takes a few seconds.

We shower and wash the dishes in the van pretty much regardless of the sites facilities, so we tend to use a fair amount of water.

As backup for sites where we're staying a few days and it's not practical to move the van, I have a Colapz folding watering can. I think it's about 8 litres. I don't have the spare room for anything bigger or solid.

That’s what I said, normal lasts. Flat and expanding fail quickly.
Our normal is the blue food grade type.

I'm confused, are you missing that our blue food grade is a lay flat type that you say don't last although ours is 9 years old and still going strong?

I’m confused as well. I’ve only had the flat green hoses on a cassette, not food grade blue ones. Our round blue one has also lasted for a decade or more.

This is the blue food grade flat type that we use. (y)

I must be weird, I carry 3 expandable hozelock hoses. A 5m, and two 30m ones, they don’t take up much room or weigh much. Never had to move the van to the tap yet.

I have one of those red one's think they are called yoyo also food safe , you can get them from most garden centres and they do expand about 4/5 meters .

Use food grade flat hoses 4 lengths add together where approriate one std hose 4 foot for tap or empty aqua roll (in toad ) got a colapse watering can that i never use. Also a 10 l container (generaly only for Tea).

When we bought our first van the only hose we had to hand was a new one from B&Q that was bought for the garden but not used. We were given a wall mounted hose reel instead. I don’t think it’s food grade but it is blue. Not being any wiser at the start and management checking the water before we connect to the water tank filler it’s not been a problem so far in ten years.
It is kept away from the rest of the junk in the locker like the waste hose and cables in its own bag and emptied after using as best we can.
The only water problem we have had was with a site hose that we couldn’t disconnect from the tap. The water from it smelled musty and stale even after running water for a while.
To give us more time off grid we also have a 20ltr water container.

I use an expandable hose which I store in a 12 litre watering can, so all bases covered. The hose is over 3 years old with no problems so far and it stretches to 30 mtrs.

Watering can for me too - 10 litre with a long spout. I carry a flat hose on a reel but can't remember the last time I used it. I also have a couple of short (10ft) lengths of food-grade plastic hose in case I can get near a tap.

With hoses you get what you pay for.
We have used garden hose and stretchy hose in the past.

We are now on our second 'Brunner Roll On 2.0' (google it as a big range of prices)
15m food grade flat hose on a roll with standard hose lock connectors and half inch screw connection as well.

There was nothing wrong with the first one, the management left it on a site, but as it was the best we have seen, we bought another.

We do have a collapsible 6 litre watering can
£15 from here

It has the advantage of a screw top so you can store water and it folds flat for storage (as we only use it a couple of times a year)

That sounds far more hassle than a hose, I wouldn't want to be filling 160Lt with a watering can every few days.

It keeps you fit, and if your at a borne you are only a few feet away from the tap.
Plus when you are on a temporary holiday site you can just top up every now and again with out moving your Motorhome.

There's always the food grade thing on threads like this but a lot use watering cans are they food grade as the water will probably be in contact a lot longer than flowing through a hose?

This talk of hose pipes reminds me of filling our water tank on a site in Rudeshiem.
I was about to move to the tap to fill our water tank rather than carrying a water container. The site boss lady told us not not to move she would fix it. She appeared with a hose reel on a trolley and disappeared between the caravans opposite our pitch. When she reappeared she passed me the end of the hose and told me to fill up.
I havnt had that service on any other sites we have been on anywhere else on our travels.

Fill up how ever you can. Just don’t drink the water from your tank, regardless of food grade hose or however you top up unless you’ve boiled it first.

weve got 5m of flat blue hose we cut of the reel folds up concertina syle with an elastic band to hold it
