Just out of interest, what length electric hookup cables do folks carry?
I've just checked mine and I must have nearly 50m.
I'm sure I don't really need that much although in 10 years I think I've needed the full length once.

Not come into contact with these so called dictators at any site cmc or ccc. Perhaps it depends on how one first speaks to the wardens.
As for hook up cables, 2x25m 1x10m and 1x5m. Once needed both 25m and the 5m on an Aire in South Western France.

Not my experience.

Anyway... To be honest, I've never measured my long one, just assumed it was 25m... it's heavy and stiff and, so far, long enough if not mostly too long.
Ooh you are awful........but I like you

I used to have commercially made 25m and 10m cables. Both corroded and failed and I converted them to extension leads for use at home. I made up my own cables using artic yellow cable with weatherproof glands on the plugs and sockets. On the basis that the 10m was usually a bit too short and the 25m too short abroad I made up cables of about 15m and 30m!

A site we used in France in an orchard had a round bollard in the middle of the pitches. There were ten outlets on that bollard. Old style two pin plugs and domestic extension cables with cellotape repairs. There were no free outlets when we were there, not that I fancied using them.
The shop sold wine milk, walnuts and ice creams. If you wanted any fruit it was free from the orchard.

I seem to recall reading when I was a new camper that in the UK the electrical rules stipulated not longer than 25m cables & hence CAMC have a max of 25m from any pitch to the hook up post. I have never needed more in the UK & about half the time use my shorter 10m cable. Abroad, in France I think, I have had to join both once or twice In past 9 years.

Can I just point out to those using 1.5mm² cable for their hookup leads that they are in contravention of British Standard BS7671 section 721.55.2.6, a copy of which is below and applies to caravans and motorhomes, which the regs refer to as Motor Caravans. If your motorhome has a 230V 16A inlet connection then you need 2.5mm² cable.

This is still an area of active research. Apparently reversing the polarity of a Bud Light causes CO2 bubbles to be drawn in from the atmosphere instead of bubbling out. It is the main contender for CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) - more promising than all the other methods, I hear.
But you don't want to be around when it releases!

You will see some Germans often on sites with a 50 metre reel. Very rarely have I had to resort to 50 metres. Once on an international rally I was so far off the temporary power posts I had to hook into a neighbouring outfit to get any power hence my carrying three 50 metres.

Would of been easier to just get the generator out 🤔😂

Like many others I have a 10m cable (also used on driveway at home) and a 25m one for when bollards too far for the short one. They can be joined so 35m in all which is ample. 59m is OTT and heavy..

Hi Folks,
Like many others, we carry a short and a long - maybe 15m and 25m. However, in my experience if there is a problem with access to a plug, most sites have a spare they can lend. As we don't stay anywhere too long we don't worry if we can't hook up.

Many years ago we stopped at a site in France. I went to hook up and took out the power for the whole site - hook up lead had 'Pulled' and the cables came out of the fittings. Sunny day, sitting with a cuppa, fixing the lead, watching a few others wondering why their fridge had gone off.

It is worth checking the connections every so often as they do get tugged with use.

What with being just too short, being stiff and heavy, being tugged and having the ends soggy - this thread is like an episode of a Carry On film.

I’ve just bought a blue tooth kit from a mate down the pub. Plug one bit in the box and the other in the camper he says! Trying it this weekend cos I need to save a bit of weight!
Seriously, here in France some sites do require a lead about 30-35m so I carry a 25 and a 10m.

Another stupid UK rule, modern 1.5mm cable is rated at 16 amps OK if a long cable run and drawing high current you will get a small volt drop, doesn't bother me. It dates back to when 1.5mm cable was rated at 15 amps and because the socket was 16 amp they decided you had to have 20 amp cable.
Standard cable in most other countries is 50m of 1.5mm sq.

I've got a short one - which is usually not quite long enough.
I've got a long one - which is usually far too long.
So I've just ordered a medium one which I hope will be just right.

I carry a 2 metre cable...

just long enough to plug my generator into the van.

JJ
A 2m cable sounds very handy:
No matter how far you can reach, Sod will ensure that it's just a meter short of where you wanted to be.
