The position of the inlet socket for mains hook lead is relatively low down on my Hobby and with the normal straight plug seemed to stick out more and the cable was sticking out too much for my liking. So I ordered a right angled one which duly arrived and I opened it up to fit, well the earth connection was ok but the other two were a narrow strip with a securing screw at one end and another screw the other which I assumed was for the cable connection.
The only solution I thought was a crimped eyelet to suit the screw size and width where it had to fit into the plug moulding to maintain separation. My hook lead is 2.5mm cable and to find the right size to suit the cable and the plug restrictions was a trial.
Has anyone else fitted a right angled plug which wasnt so fiddlely to fit?
I will add photos later which will help my rambling above.

the above thread might give you some pointers?

I bought this. Has added bonus of external socket. So you can pop an adapter in for external use.

Thanks for the responses.
The one I bought was a Power parts one.
I just think that it is not good enough that sellers sell stuff that they have no experience of or even know what they are selling. I know they only sell them Caveat emptor. I will investigate a better one.

what i actually need is a 240v outlet ..... i have a standard 3 pin plug one ready to fit, but i would prefer an ehu outlet (not a flush mounted one, but a 'flappy' type!)

i want to use it in conjunction with a 'camping hook up' with rcd protection and sockets, so i can use a george foreman and electric pizza oven outside safely (belt and braces as i know the motorhome already has protection, but it just makes me feel more comfortable)

but i would prefer it to have a three pin outlet as opposed to a two pin. i suppose a 3 way coupler would suffice but its an extra thing to carry around!
If it was on the other end of the cable (and orientated as a plug not a socket) it would help when having to share a supply at some of the French Aires we've been on where EHU is free.

Do they even exist?

Doesn't EuroTrotters post #4 satisfy your needs?

it says its a 'european' socket - by which i assume the two pin type with the earth an external copper strip as opposed to its own separate 'pin'

i would prefer a 'UK type' three pin connector

Sorry, I hadn't picked up on that. :giggle:

I'm hoping to avoid adding or carrying adapters, if I can just get what I wanted, it would cover a variety of scenarios....the problem being they are specific to me so doubt they would be available...

Basically it would be an EHU with right angled connectors that have additional 3 pin outlets at each end of the cable.

Or you can plug a normal 230v extension lead into the mains socket inside your MH when you are on EHU.

that would be my solution.. KISS .. :lips: ;)

Or fit an external 13A socket
The option to fit an external 13A socket is the simplest solution for cooking outside, without having to have a door or locker open. I am just trying to come up with a simpler method that doesn't require another hole cut into the motorhome BUT I will probably go with that option so I can also include 12v connections direct to the battery for utilising a folding solar panel to supplement what I already have on the roof.

The extension lead solution (which I currently use) means the door or window being left slightly open and a trailing lead to the nearest socket that is connected to the inverter (Renogy with pass through) Not the sort of solution I want permanently though.

Here is a picture of my best attempt at wiring the 90 degree 240v hook up plug to van.

The cores would be better routed to the top of the plug, then back round onto the terminals.. less likely to be pulled off if cable is pulled or snagged when coiling/uncoiling ..

Also, good practice is to have the Earth core longer then the L and N (if possible) so that it is the last to be pulled off, rather than the first ..

I would rewire it..

I will give that a try if there is enough space within the depth of the cap, it would also make it easier when making the terminations. Ta.

I have just been outside and looked at the plug cap and yes there is room to do as you said. Thanks again.
