Honfleur aire

Don't blame the victims. They've bikes and a bike rack, where should they put the bikes?
Not blaming anybody but bike racks aren’t exactly secure are they? It’s a shame but....

Honfleur is a lovely old town and harbour. The Aire is nothing special but it is only 5 minutes walk to the centre. The Aire and town get very busy, just as any other good tourist attraction.

Get there early and you can find a place and even a spare EHU. But be careful where you run your cable though. I discovered the hard way that people allow their dogs to s**t in the grass under the hedges. Wouldn't stop me returning though.

It's not compulsory to use aires.
Those that are busy are popular for a reason.

We have never been when you couldn't find a place, the very nature of the place means you can poke your van in anywhere and no one seems to mind, as it's really only somewhere to park for the night what you are there for is a mile away.

We were there at new year, and it was rammed, vans were parking down the middle, blocking people in, went back a few days later, and there were only about 6 vans there!

At least the shed lady won’t be there I think she only works in the summer!!
No, she does work summer AND winter, well she came to our van at least and that was in March.

I have said for years. I should be legal to wire your property to about 100,000Amps at 1000V. As a deterrent? maybe?, If they can actually read?. As a cure and a way of cleaning the gene pool?. (y) (y) (y)
Why not, if someone touches something and they are somewhere they shouldn't be well that's hard luck, they get fried good enough for them.
stayed on the campsite very close to town, my brother stayed on the aire , horrible dusty car park , hundreds vans parked right next to each other.
it might be different in the winter ?
At the end of the day, it's a motorhome park, just like a car park, not intended to be a campsite, but for £10 for 24hrs it's cheaper than a car park plus you get water and electricity thrown in and an awesome little harbour, What's not to like.

Hi, we're staying on the Honfleur Aire for a couple of nights. It's the first time we've stayed on an Aire in France so we've not got anything to compare it to, but as far as location imho it's pretty fantastic with just a short walk to a wonderful historic town and harbour, and a huge selection of great places to eat - and the seafood is amazing here!

Anyway I thought I'd post a photo of the parking pay point in answer to the OP's question - it takes coins or credit card (contactless) (the charge is €11 per 24hrs) and was really easy to use (click on the flag button to select UK).

Hope this helps!

.... And here's a photo of the Honfleur Aire taken this morning - it's very quiet, and we didn't have any problems finding a spare power connection on the EHU.

I think that is the best place to park, overlooking the dock. But as I said before beware of the dog s**t on the grass under the hedge you are parked in front of.

Looks like they are limiting you to 25hrs now. Or can you just keep putting the money in daily?

Hi PeterC!

Thanks for your reply - you got me worried because we are going to stay a second night!

So, we went into the Honfleur Tourism Office and asked, and the lady said that it's fine to stay more than one night but you need to pay for each day separately - ie. you can't buy a ticket for more than one day (24hr period) at a time.

I also checked on Camper Contact App and it says a max of 7 nights.

Hope that helps! ?

Personally given this could be the end of your trip (if you were catching the ferry from Le Havre the next day) I would pay the extra and stop at Camping du Phare which is a great little site with decent wash facilities etc and within easy walking distance to Honfleur. I don’t want to be wise after the event as it could happen to me but a Strikeback alarm system (from VanBitz) may have offered you some protection re your bikes. Thanks for sharing this with us as we can all learn from each other’s experiences good or bad.

Sorry E bikes on a rack is asking for trouble Imho.
Don’t apologise, we keep our E-bikes in our garage.

We have used the aire a few times, last time was in August 2016, we were travelling back to the UK in our 10m RV, the aire was packed and we drove around a couple of times, finally squeezing in next to an old Hymer.
We thought the town was well worth a visit and wouldn’t hesitate to stop there again if we had to.

I just looked this up on SfS as it sounds great but only open April through September ... I’ll keep it in mind for summer trips .

???
I was referring to the post you made about people having e-bikes stolen from their rack
Yes and as we keep our bikes in the garage, I told you not to apologise as we agree. Sometimes things are lost in the telling! :ROFLMAO:

We've carried our ebikes on the rack for a couple of years now without a problem - we don't have any other option. They're insured, they're out of sight under a cover so its not immediately obvious they're ebikes and they're locked to the rack with a couple of locks, one of which is Sold Secure Gold. Yes in theory someone could remove the entire rack with the bikes still attached, or they could attack the locks....but they're more likely to just move on to something more vulnerable.....I'm always amazed how many bikes you see on racks that don't appear to be locked.

Honfleur Aire is possibly the worst aire I've ever been on. Our neighbours had their brand new e-bikes removed from their rack in the night. It's crowded, busy, manic and I hated it.
I'd be interested to know whether the bikes were locked to the rack with a good quality lock?

I just want to add to this . 45 years ago my mum and dad took 3 Young boys to Rhodesia . No smart phones , no mobile phones , a country at the start of melt down (a great shame) , we lived there for a few years , went to school etc .the country had major economic issues - esp for the black folk . But not once did we have an issue with the locals . Well not until my eldest brother approached national service age
There weren't mobile phones here 45 years ago, smart or otherwise. In fact, 45 years ago there were still kiosks with A and B buttons. Lots of houses didn't have a land line but was the era when they were increasing. Around 1975, you couldn't even direct dial to Ireland

Stayed there March last year fairly quiet then, we had hook up and if memory serves me right we had a nice location near water. It is basically similar to many aires, a large car park
Walked into town, quaint and beautiful in evening. We thought it was a great location as we toured France.
