We are off to the Honfleur Aire but read on a review that the EHU was 'unstable'. We don't want to risk any damage to our van electrical system so are wondering if it's best to avoid using it. Or maybe unstable just means it cuts out a lot.

I know a lot of you will have been there so would welcome your thoughts. Thank you.

Not unstable, but it's only 6amps.. and there are not enough EHU points for all pitches, so some people piggyback .. then trip the MCB

If you plug into one that's not working, a man comes around regularly to reset, or you can ask the lady who is in charge..

Go and enjoy, if you get an EHU just don't overload it.. we just use it for charging batteries and fridge..

That's exactly what I needed to know. Thank you.

It might not be too busy so no piggybacking required.

If you try to run your fridge on ehu, it will likely cut out as the voltage drops, we run ours from battery, which is then topped up from the ehu.

We probably would have tried using satellite TV but if the dish was up and the power tripped I guess it wouldn't retract until the power was reinstated. Not sure I will risk it

surely the sat dish is 12v ,ours is and enables use off grid
I'm an idiot. I always thought it was 240v. Just tried it and working fine off grid. Not sure how much power it will take so will monitor the leisure batteries (x2) on the panel.

if you arrive around or shortly after midday there will be plenty of spaces.. it usually fills up late in the afternoon..
It's a lot better than it used to be, busy, but no overcrowding, there is a new control barrier with ticket machine that you use to pay on the day you exit ..

Stayed twice this year, never had a problem getting a decent hook up but we have always arrived early.

Out of around 100 nights on Aires I think we have only connected to mains once, mostly because it wasn’t available or would have meant cables running across the road

Once I got over my early fear of flat batteries we have been fine and we mostly travel out of season

Stayed there 2 weeks ago, no issues with either lack of points or power tripping. It was quite busy but still good choice of EHU spaces.

We have arrived at the Aire. Plugged into EHU, fridge on and nothing tripped yet. It looks like you can just reset the trip switches at the post if it does trip rather than waiting for a chap to come round as someone said.

fridge is fine... only 120w .. about 0.5 A on 240v

yes, I said it..

but how do you open the box without the key unless they have changed the boxes since July 23 ?

I think they’re upgrading as when I was there some posts were old style nd some newer which could be reset which I chose.

Our power box is not locked. There is a transparent plastic cover over the trip fuses which has a hole for a padlock but there is no lock. Have just boiled the electric kettle and it has not tripped it. The supply is only 5 amps.

you will have a low wattage kettle .. probably 1kw ..uses about 4 amps

We have been twice this year. (spring and autumnm)

Everything was fine.

Except perhaps that voltage may still be low. The fridge in our previous MH would not run on the low voltage, so we always used LPG.

The fridge in our new MH may be more less fussy about the voltage. Either way, we had no problems on either visit.

Entry/Exit is all automated now and there are lots of new EHU points.

We like it because it is very quiet and there is a huge choice of restaurants to suit every budget.

More yachts there now than there used to be, which is a good sign.

Why boil a kettle? Use gas, and you know it won’t trip it.

We were there about three weeks ago, as you come in through the barrier we were to the right parked on the left hand side ( away from the road ) there were mosquitos everywhere, got bitten and had the dreaded buzz at night. Not sure if it was the time of year, or the swampy ground behind but they were a dam nuisance

What's the rating on the kettle ,if its a standard domestic one it may be 3000w which will trip a 6 amp ehu..we use a 700w camping type kettle, takes a while but gets there in the end.
The trick is to use each appliance in turn.at night leave the fridge on ehu should be OK unless someone unplug you.

It will only take more power when searching, once locked on satellite it’s only the receiver that takes power and won’t be a lot.

760 - 900 watts. So is fine. Works well, doesn't take long to boil.

Sorry. The reply above was meant for #25.

We loved Honfleur. Great buildings and a huge market on the Saturday morning. The Aire is still quite busy in October.

We stayed there for 3 nights in September and loved it👍🏻definitely going back when we go to France next May/June.

We were parked behind where the gap is in the bush and had a great view over the water😀
