Home Insurance - Maximum Period of Unoccupancy

If you think trying to get home insurance is bad, try looking for unoccupied house insurance ... talk about rip-off!

Anyone tried Home Protect? Just got a good quote for up to 180 days.

We were with them for 2 or 3 years, never had to claim but the policy was quite comprehensive.

The policy from Co op came in at a good price.

It is limited to 60 days unless someone sleeps in the property to reset the time BUT she was clear that the cover for personal possesion away from the home did NOT reset itself and was limited to 60 days maximum.

In addition to the 60 day maximum on personal possessions I have now been told that the 60 day reset rule (which applies to the property only) is only for occasional use in particular circumstance and NOT for people wanting 120 or even 180 days cover.

So do check with them if you took out a policy on this basis.

Back to CandC CLubcare which at least is geared to long term (180 days) motorhoming

It is our only residence...................I suspect she misunderstood and thought we have a caravan/home elsewhere.
No, the fact is if you are not using the property for over 6 months then you can't be a resident. The fact that you pay council tax, maybe income tax & even national insurance counts for nothing.

My point was that you may think the 60 day reset takes you to 120 days then someone stays overnight again and that gives you another reset to 180 days.
But you return after say 160 days to fit in with your residence requirement.

We thought this might be the case and I am just advising those with such a policy to check 'cos it's not the case.

webby1, The following is a chat that I just had with one of their on-line representative, does it conflict with what you were told:
