Home Insurance, 90 days unoccupancy period

So did I but that's unoccupied as is not lived in at all usually, mainly meant for those not usually lived in/empty/derelict etc, not just you leaving your normal home unoccupied due to you being away on holiday. If you can find one that does cover a normal home I'd be more than happy to have a shuftie!

This lot specifically mention long holidays, and 'permanent home' and unoccupation up to a year is an option.

Thanks, I've done quotes on comparison sites where they came up but unfortunately once I got to their site and add in accidental damage for buildings and contents the cost shot up well over £600 for less cover than the CMC including membership.

I don't want to be a member of the CMC as I won't use their sites/CLs and don't really like to 'use' them like that but if needs be I'll just have to become a member of the 'club', something I swore I'd never do again, but 'wallet' comes before pride!

Maybe get one insurance Company to insure first 45 days.
Then a different one for the other 45 days.

AFAIK you can't do that, as you have to have the insurance in place whilst you are in the UK (the exception being if you are renewing with the same company) but I am willing to be told otherwise.

I have even tried to see if I can get a policy just to cover the extra 30 days but I don't think you can't have 'double insurance' beside which it would likely be more expensive than just going with the CMC.

I am loosing the will to live! I've spent hours trying to find a 90 day unoccupancy home insurance policy and it is a blooming nightmare. I've tried M&S and LV and both come back with stupidly high quotes - I pay less than £300 for 60 days away and they want more than double! I wish the comparison sites would give the option of asking this when you use them but they don't so it means going through the policies to see what is permitted and most don't give more than 31 days, some 60 and trying to root out a 90 day one that isn't astronomical is night on impossible.

So far the only one I've found that is any way sensible is CMC at £444.98 but that still means joining the club too so is really £500 ... so over £200 for an extra 30 days cover, madness.

Before I go completely insane can anyone tell me of any insurer that covers up 90 days away from home without stupid requirements (ie someone has to sleep in the home for 5 days each month), or reduced cover for the additional time.
Give a registered Broker a call, they will be able to find the best policy for you, they also generally have access to broker only policies. Comparison sites are there to sell you cheap policies not necessarily the best cover to suit you.

Have a look at “Intersure” we have our Turkish Property with them and I moved my UK house to them as well.

No matter how you try to abide by the rules you will still get screwed. They wonder why insurance claims are “inflated” because we know you bast…s take the premium and then won’t payout for the full claim.
Do you mean 'intasure?

it includes 90 days unoccupied
That’s good, mind you I thought that as well. Check the statement of fact further through the doc as in mine it stated against the unoccupied over 60 days as no. It was when I questioned that they said the policy only covered up to 60 days and the wording on page 2 was incorrect.

I tried to argue it out but didn’t push it too hard. I learned 10 years ago if you go too hard with an insurance company they can then decline to renew which is a disaster as then when you fill in a proposal you have to state that you have been refused insurance in the past. I ended up going to the Sunday Times and they got the decision changed and compensation for me but I’ve always been wary since.

As you may have worked out I have little faith in insurance companies who will always ensure they come out ahead.

Mine is ticked as Yes against the 60 days unoccupied box, I will still check it out when I pay up.

:giggle: - I did a quote yesterday and it came out over £1,000!
Minx, do you live in a mansion? Mind you those faberge eggs must be a bit expensive to insure!
I‘m not doubting you but that quote seems unbelievable.
I squeak when I walk and I’m not a Yorkie either but that took my breath away.

I live in a former pauper's cottage! 3 bed detached bungalow with lounge, kitchen, study and 1 bathroom, 2 single pre-fab garages and a 24ft workshop, largish garden. We're actually the smallest and cheapest property on the street.

I've got no idea why we're getting such stupidly high quotes from some insurers but not others, it just doesn't make sense especially when they use the same underwriters.
