The knobs on our gas hob have these little metal inserts that keep them (very loosely) clipped onto the hob's spindels.

If (when) you accidentally pull the knob off (steady!) the metal insert can fly off and, in this specific case, disappear beyond recovery.

What are these inserts called, and where can I buy replacements?

many many years! since I was a kid
have always referred to them as shaft clip inserts for the ones inside the knob and spring clamps for the round ones that clamp the plastic to the shaft. Not seen new ones on their own though

I've just put a bit of Blue Tack in the knob recess and squeezed it back on. Cleared off the excess.

Holds it on while still allowing it to be removed if required. 🤔

If we are referring to the chromed plastic knobs on the Thetford oven, I have a few spare that am willing to send out free of charge if you need one? Thetford sent a pack of five out to me free of charge last year as our oven was still under warranty (they don't sell them separately).

Ooo, that's very kind of you. If it looks like this then yes please :

I have had the similar problem in the past, in that the knobs get loose the more I take them off to clean under them.
I just googled spring metal clips for hob knobs and found this page, I hope you can find one to fit with a bit more research.

I know you won't believe me, but I really did search for them. I can only conclude I am terrible at searching. Thank you, that did indeed turn up a supplier.

Done, and actually it holds better than the original clip. Think it might stay that way....
