Been told off a few times for driving to close to the boats in Portsmouth harbour
they have lookouts to make sure no boats come in, they are very serious when they shout at you

Do not the Royal Navy carry boats on their ships: lifeboats, tenders, rescue boats?
And a Boatswain for each.

Life boats, no.. they are not afforded that luxury.. they get life rafts...
The rest are called Cutters, Whalers, Launches and Ribs ( ok admittedly they have the word boat in title, but are known as Rib's) oh and of coarse landing craft... but no boats

Back in the day it used to be 3 sail masts or more was a ship less was a boat.
Generally, it's now based on vessel size, cargo/passenger capacity, crew numbers, etc.

I found your initial post interesting even if I did expect to see the Cunard liner. The result discussion about the difference between a boat and a ship are also interesting. Deep in my memory I think I knew that but I could not have recalled it.
There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here being a huge part of the attraction.
You will though also see many times a comment that posting a sensible question often brings silly and amusing answers as well as the proper answer.
