Highlands and Hebrides here we come Sept 2018

Been right down to Vatersay overnight, absolutely no signal, phone or internet, parked next to community hall where they ask for a £5 donation. Severe slope but we got a spot on some hard standing by the gate

The most southerly point you can access by car on the western isles

Went to bed early and enjoyed this due to waking up early

And in the opposite direction at same time

Played with panorama option on phone to get that (y)

Now moved to Castlebay where ferry goes back to Oban

I have also found you can go to and from Mallaig from here and Loch Maddy on North Uist. Didn’t know that till today, ferry times from here are early but from Mallaig across are midday ish so would work better for us

Not much to this place and just found out that Barra distillers don’t distill here, it’s done in London o_O so we will give that a miss

But this is rather nice in the harbour

Just about to drive up eastern side of Barra, stop by airport tonight if allowed or if not we spotted a nice cliff top camp site back on west coast

Due to fridge issues, the smell is unbearable, we are going home early :(

Still got a few days on islands but fridge will be turned off from now, back to Skye on Sunday, might revisit Findhorn on way home now the deer are back (y)

Shame about aborting the trip David, I can't believe that the fridge is still working if it has been gassing you for day's now. Have you found any yellow/green deposits on the pipework or can you not see in as the top vent is back of the oven rather than fridge I guess.

Martin

It is a shame you've got to head home, motorhomes eh, who'd have one?

Freezer is just starting to let things thaw now

Not had the top cover off, might have a peep when parked tonight (y)

Might have to hold your phone camera inside.

David Bev sorry to hear trip is being cut short hope the solution is not too costly, seems a real shame:(. The locations looked great not sure what the wind was like and the temp but can see why you keep returning.

We are currently en France making our way via Versailles to Marciac area to meet up with a school friend of Jacqui's on Tuesday . After that we shall chase the sun for a bit.

David & Bev, sorry to hear of your fridge problems. Is it worth considering a 12 v electric coolbox?
There is a firm at Aird on Benbecula that might stock one...

https://www.uisthardware.co.uk
Might .be worth a call??

Loads of signs now ban motirhome parking anywhere near airport, technically they say no overnight but same thing really :( plus signs saying do not go on sands when windsocks are out and it looks like they never go away o_O

We drive in past the airport following signs for Croft number 2 camp site

By mistake ended up next door at no 3

Sadly yesterday’s sun and even an assurance by the crofter site owner of another nice today hasn’t happened :(

But it has at least stopped raining :)

I think this site featured on the TV program a year on Barra, a really nice owner had a good chat with him when he came to take our money. Sad to say he suffers a lot from Free campers who think it is OK to pop in for a shower or to dump and refill :(

£5 per person plus another £5 if you have electric well worth the £10 (y)

Just off back to South Uist on next ferry (y)

Today's weather forecast was clear skies in western isles, unlike the Midlands which are under cloudy skies and rain.
Hope it picks up for you (y)

We’re heading there David
Ralph’s got it pencilled in his jotter (y)
“It’s crackint flags” here at Fortrose. I’ve got my shorts and vest on and Ralph says to tell you he’s off in the sea for a dip !
I’m not .

We’ve just reached Oban after a glorious sunny day travelling down Loch Ness Sorry you have to curtail your trip

We have found a lovely little spot purely by chance after taking a wrong turn

About half way up South Uist not exactly sure where right now but this is our evening view

Just bought more tonic water at local coop, what more do we need, chilli for tea in a bit (y)

Just taken Lola for a walk on the beach that wasn’t here when we arrived :)

The clouds will not quite clear before sunset, but we will take not raining as a bonus (y)

A couple more MH’s have joined us, albeit about 100m and 200m away

A nice way to end the island bit of the trip

We have decided to go north before home, Ullapool tomorrow for the meet with Bev and Ralph we hoped would have been out here, if we hadn’t cut things short, then on to Lairg for hopefully salmon jumping at Falls of Shin, followed by a look at Fortrose for the dolphins although expect to see more typical weather when we are there :)

Then back up the Findhorn Valley looking for the deer we have missed (y)

Don’t forget Seaham Hall beach SR77AD for the very crafty sea glass for Bev, free parking and yummy Downey’s fish n chips SR77EU David
See you tomorrow x

We saw lots of salmon jumping yesterday at Rogie Falls near Contin. It was amazing and fascinating and difficult to tear ourselves away. A local came by and said he had come to check but didn’t expect to see any as water levels quite low.
Good luck for seeing the deer at Findhorn Valley this time, you are due some (y)

@Ralph-n-Bev this might be another option for both of us, not checked my map but think Contin is on your obvious route from Inverness to Ullapool (y)

That’s a plan ! It’s right on our route to Ullapool. We shall be up showered and off . Fingers crossed we get to see some salmon jumping . Thanks @Riverbankannie

Would have been good to meet up, especially interested in pug having followed your build. We have 2015 IH 630RL and could have done some comparisons

Bit of sun in between showers as we pack to set off for the ferry back to Skye from Notth Uist, this is South Uist

Road number C87 off A865 then you have take a short drive over grass track to get to shore, easily done in our MH (y)
